Chicago indie-rock band Ratboys<\/a> have announced a new album: Singin\u2019 to an Empty Chair<\/em><\/a> is out out February 6 via New West<\/a>. Featured on the album is the new single \u201cAnywhere,\u201d a tightly wound slice of pop-rock with a music video directed by Bobby Butterscotch<\/a>. Check it out below.<\/p>\n Singin\u2019 to an Empty Chair<\/em> spans 11 songs\u2014including recent track \u201cLight Night Mountains All That<\/a>\u201d\u2014and was produced by Chris Walla, the former Death Cab for Cutie member who also worked on the band\u2019s 2023 album, The Window<\/em><\/a>. According to a press release, singer-guitarist Julia Steiner penned most of the songs after attending therapy for the first time and finding new ways to work through a tough, but necessary, conversation with a loved one from whom she\u2019s estranged.<\/p>\n \u201cThe goal is to update this person on what\u2019s been going on in my life and to try to bridge that impasse and reach out a hand into the void,\u201d explained Steiner. To do so, she followed the \u201cEmpty Chair\u201d technique learned in therapy, during which a person attempts to have a difficult conversation with someone who isn\u2019t physically present by imagining they\u2019re in a chair opposite them and speaking directly to it.<\/p>\n Ratboys recently announced a 2026 North American tour<\/a>, which begins on February 25, in Detroit, and lasts on through until mid-April.
