\n\tDrake<\/a> is being sued by a Missouri man who claims the music superstar, along with influencer Adin Ross and an online casino named Stake.us, received \u201cunjust enrichment\u201d from the purportedly \u201cdeceptive\u201d sweepstakes casino.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a 34-page class action complaint obtained by Rolling Stone<\/em>, plaintiff Justin Killham alleges Drake and Ross actively misled consumers when they promoted Stake.us as a \u201charmless\u201d social casino when, according to the lawsuit, it\u2019s a \u201chighly addictive\u201d and \u201cunlawful gambling platform.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFiled Monday in Jackson County Circuit court, the lawsuit accuses Drake and Ross of \u201cdeceptive, fraudulent and unfair\u201d practices that violate Missouri law and cause real-life gambling losses to at-risk users.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cStake\u2019s deceptive trade practices have inflicted severe harm on the vulnerable in Missouri, and especially on individuals prone to gambling addiction and younger consumers targeted through Stake\u2019s \u2018free play\u2019 marketing,\u201d the lawsuit states. It alleges Stake.us created a dual-currency system that bundles its virtual, purportedly non-redeemable \u201cgold coins\u201d with a second type of token called \u201cStake Cash\u201d that can be wagered on casino games and cashed out for real money at a fixed 1:1 ratio to the U.S. dollar. This makes token transactions \u201ca clear vehicle for real-money gambling,\u201d the lawsuit states.<\/p>\n

\n\tThis type of dual-currency model is considered a loophole by critics and has faced a backlash by legislators. California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill<\/a> earlier this month to address the problem. (Attempts to reach reps for Drake, Ross and Stake were not immediately successful Tuesday.)\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tDrake and Ross have been high-profile promoters of Stake, receiving millions from the company to engage in livestream gambling promoting the platform. These streams are carried out \u201cunder deeply fraudulent pretenses,\u201d the lawsuit claims. \u201cWhen Ross and Drake purport to gamble online with Stake.com, they often do not do so with their own money despite telling the public in Missouri and elsewhere the opposite,\u201d the filing states. The complaint argues that \u201cStake\u2019s influencer marketing, especially through Drake and Ross, is directed, among others,\u00a0at teenagers in Missouri\u00a0and in other states.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
