\n\tAlthough Lily Allen<\/a>\u2018s evocative new album, West End Girl<\/a><\/em>, reflects on the unraveling of her marriage to Stranger Things<\/em> actor David Harbour<\/a>, the singer confirmed she doesn\u2019t still feel \u201cconfused or angry\u201d about the situation. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn a conversation with Mel Ottenberg for Interview <\/em>magazine<\/a>, Allen explained that her album isn\u2019t about getting back at her ex. Ottenberg asked of the LP, \u201cShould we call it a revenge tour?\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt isn\u2019t,\u201d Allen replied. \u201cI mean, I wrote this record in 10 days in December and I feel very differently about the whole situation now. We all go through breakups and it\u2019s always fucking brutal. But I don\u2019t think it\u2019s that often that you feel inclined to write about it while you\u2019re in it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe added, \u201cThat\u2019s what\u2019s fun about this record; it\u2019s viscerally like going through the motions. At the time, I was really trying to process things and that\u2019s great in terms of the album, but I don\u2019t feel confused or angry now. I don\u2019t need revenge.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe singer explained that some of West End Girl<\/em> is \u201cbased on truth and some of it is fantasy.\u201d She explained, \u201cIt\u2019s not a cruel album. I don\u2019t feel like I\u2019m being mean. It was just the feelings I was processing at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOttenberg asked how she managed to get out of a broken heart. \u201cI think it\u2019s just getting out and socializing,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m guilty of putting all of it on one person when I\u2019m in a relationship. So when that person leaves, I feel completely bereft and it takes me a while to be like, \u2018Actually, I can rely on friends for some of this stuff as well.’\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tAllen also admitted to being on dating apps following her breakup from Harbour, which she said was difficult to do as a woman in the public eye. \u201cThey\u2019re awful, especially if you\u2019re going through heartbreak,\u201d she noted. \u201cThere is nothing more depressing than hundreds of people that are nothing like the person that you\u2019re missing. \u2026 I\u2019m not really looking to go out with another famous person.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe said she was actually banned from Hinge \u201cfor impersonating myself,\u201d but she is still on Raya. Allen added that she is currently not dating anyone specific. \u201cI\u2019m not in a relationship, but there are some people that I meet up with,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

\n\tAllen and Harbour married in 2020. West End Girl<\/em> marks her first new album<\/a> in seven years, following 2018\u2019s No Shame<\/em>. It features 14 tracks recorded in Los Angeles over 10 days with her music director Blue May late last year before completing it between New York and London. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe record is vulnerable in a way that my music perhaps hasn\u2019t been before \u2013 certainly not over the course of a whole album,\u201d Allen said in a statement, adding, \u201cI\u2019ve used shared experiences as the basis for songs which try to delve into why we humans behave as we do, so the record is a mixture of fact and fiction which I hope serves as a reminder of how stoic yet also how frail we humans can be. In that respect I think it\u2019s very much an album about the complexities of relationships and how we all navigate them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
