Drake<\/a> is hoping to revive his lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG)<\/a> that a federal judge threw out earlier this month. The musician and his legal team filed a notice of appeal today (October 29) in a New York federal court.<\/p>\n When reached by Pitchfork, a spokesperson for Drake said, \u201cThis confirms our intent to appeal, and we look forward to the Court of Appeals reviewing that filing in the coming weeks.\u201d Representatives for Universal Music Group did not immediately respond to Pitchfork\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n Drake filed his lawsuit against UMG<\/a> in January, alleging that the music corporation \u201cwaged an unrelenting campaign\u201d to promote \u201cNot Like Us<\/a>,\u201d Kendrick Lamar\u2019s famous diss song that he believed to be defamatory. UMG had asked for the complaint\u2019s dismissal, arguing that Drake \u201clost a rap battle that he provoked and in which he willingly participated.\u201d<\/p>\n Judge Jeannette A. Vargas ostensibly agreed with UMG, ruling that \u201cthe broader context of a heated rap battle, with incendiary language and offensive accusations hurled by both participants, would not incline the reasonable listener to believe that \u2018Not Like Us\u2019 imparts verifiable facts.\u201d<\/p>\n
