The Atlanta rap veteran is playing a Las Vegas residency with a 101-piece ensemble<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n\tOn just the second night of rapper Jay \u201cJeezy<\/a>\u201d Jenkins new Las Vegas residency,<\/a> the formative figure in trap music earned an official Guinness World Records title for the largest orchestra<\/a> in a hip-hop music concert. The residency \u2014 named TM:101 Live<\/em> after his hit album from 2005, Let\u2019s Get It: Thug Motivation 101<\/em><\/a> \u2014 is taking place at PH Live at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.<\/p>\n

\n\tAt the Nov. 1 show, Guinness World Records adjudicator Andy Glass personally presented Jeezy<\/a> with an official certificate marking the achievement. \u201cThis isn\u2019t just a win for me \u2014 it\u2019s a moment for the culture, for music, and for Vegas,\u201d Jeezy said while accepting the honor, according to a press release. \u201cThank you to every musician, every fan, and everyone who believed we could take this all the way. A winner is a dreamer who never gave up!\u201d He went on to thank the massive team behind him: \u201cThank you to all 101 orchestra members, composer Derrick Hodge, musical director Adam Blackstone, DJ Drama, DJ Ace and most importantly, the fans.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJeezy\u2019s Vegas residency is backed by the Color of Noize Orchestra, which also performed with Afropop stars Wizkid at the Hollywood Bowl in June and Angelique Kidjo at Carnegie Hall last year. TM:101 Live <\/em>is\u00a0 musically directed by Adam Blackstone, who also directed the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show <\/a>featuring Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar as well as the the 2023 halftime show starring Rihanna<\/a>. The new orchestral arrangements of Jeezy\u2019s hits like \u201cSoul Survivor\u201d featuring Akon and \u201cAnd Then What\u201d featuring Mannie Fresh were composed by Derrick Hodge. Jeezy\u2019s own DJ Ace and mixtape legend DJ Drama are TM101: Live<\/em> supporting acts. The residency will continue with Nutcracker<\/em>-themed shows<\/a> on Dec. 19 and 21.<\/p>\n

\n\tLast February, Jeezy made his NPR Tiny Desk debut<\/a> backed by a full band. \u201cI\u2019m gonna take y\u2019all on a journey so y\u2019all can see how I got from there to here, to Tiny Desk,\u201d Jeezy told the crowd at NPR\u2019s Washington, D.C. office. \u201cI used to stand on a tiny porch.
