\n\tRosal\u00eda<\/a> has responded to a wave of criticism, claiming comments she made about Bad Bunny<\/a> and singing in multiple languages were taken \u201cout of context.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe dust-up stems back to the Spanish singer\u2019s recent appearance on the New York Times<\/em>\u2019 Popcast,<\/a> where she was asked about singing in about 13 different languages<\/a> one her new album<\/a> Lux<\/a><\/em> and the challenges of communicating with a global audience. Specifically, the hosts mentioned a previous interview they\u2019d done with Bad Bunny, where they asked him if he ever worried that what he was singing in Spanish was being misunderstood or going over the heads of listeners. The Puerto Rican superstar responded in a sing-song voice, \u201cI don\u2019t care!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tRosal\u00eda<\/a>, for her part, said, \u201cI think I\u2019m the opposite of Benito. I think I care. I care so much that definitely I\u2019m going to make the effort to sing in a language that\u2019s not my language. It\u2019s not my comfort zone.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tRosal\u00eda went on to suggest that her choice to incorporate so many different languages on Lux <\/em>was an artistic one meant to engage different listeners and to encourage curious fans to explore a language they didn\u2019t know. \u201cThere\u2019s 13 languages, I hope there\u2019s a little something, or hopefully there\u2019s translations,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \n\tStill, the comments caused some social media uproar, which tapped into longstanding critiques over Rosal\u00eda\u2019s relationship with Latin music and its Afro-Carribean roots as a singer from Spain. One TikTok<\/a> user argued that Bad Bunny sings only in Spanish \u201cbecause he\u2019s standing up for his culture, something you cannot relate to because, what? You are not a Latina, you\u2019re a Spaniard.\u201d The user also said Rosal\u00eda had \u201cbenefited from the Latino culture, so you should be able to stand up for it, but it does not surprise me that you\u2019re just like\u2026 \u2018Not my circus, not my monkeys.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tRosal\u00eda posted a comment<\/a> in response to that video (though it seems to have since been deleted), saying, \u201cHey, I understand your point of view but I think it\u2019s being taken out of context\u201d (translated from Spanish).
