{"id":50966,"date":"2025-11-05T18:09:42","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T18:09:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/05\/ed-sheeran-praises-music-education-reforms-in-u-k-curriculum-review\/"},"modified":"2025-11-05T18:09:42","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T18:09:42","slug":"ed-sheeran-praises-music-education-reforms-in-u-k-curriculum-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/05\/ed-sheeran-praises-music-education-reforms-in-u-k-curriculum-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Ed Sheeran Praises Music Education Reforms in U.K. Curriculum Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/ed-sheeran\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ed-sheeran\" data-tag=\"ed-sheeran\">Ed Sheeran<\/a> celebrated the U.K. government\u2019s decision to implement new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/ed-sheeran-foundation-launch-1235229717\/\">changes to music education<\/a> following a review of what children are taught at most schools.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn a post on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DQrWWmGAlv0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Instagram<\/a>, the singer-songwriter said the new changes to the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/educationhub.blog.gov.uk\/2025\/11\/what-you-need-to-know-about-the-changes-to-the-national-curriculum\/\">National Curriculum<\/a> address several \u201ckey points\u201d raised in an open <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/ed-sheeran-harry-styles-uk-goverment-fund-music-1235302220\/\">letter he and his charitable organization<\/a>, the Ed Sheeran Foundation, sent this summer. \u201cThis involves diversifying the music genres taught in schools and removing outdated systems that stop kids from studying music and the arts as part of their school day,\u201d Sheeran wrote today, Nov. 5. \u201cThese changes give young people hope and the opportunity to study music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tA summary of the review from the U.K. government said \u201crevitalizing arts subjects\u201d was one key area of improvement. It also called for scrapping the English baccalaureate program, which introduced a set of eight core academic subjects for students, but didn\u2019t cover the arts or vocational subjects (per <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/education\/2025\/nov\/04\/national-curriculum-review-in-england-10-key-recommendations\">The Guardian<\/a><\/em>). This program has long faced criticism from arts advocates, including Sheeran, who called for its removal in his summer letter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWhile Sheeran was pleased with the changes, he said, \u201cThere\u2019s a lot more to do to support music education, especially our music teachers, but this is a step in the right direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHe added, \u201cWithout the encouragement I received in school, especially from my music teacher, I wouldn\u2019t be a musician today, and I know so many of my peers feel the same. My music education went beyond learning and playing. The open letter he sent to Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/keir-starmer\/\" id=\"auto-tag_keir-starmer\" data-tag=\"keir-starmer\">Keir Starmer<\/a> and other U.K. officials called for committing \u00a3250 million (about $322 million) to \u201crepair decades of dismantling music.\u201d The letter was signed by an array of English music luminaries, including Harry Styles, Elton John, and Central Cee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tStarmer wrote Sheeran, informing him about the changes to the National Curriculum. \u201cThe review places creative subjects firmly at the center,\u201d Starmer wrote. \u201cWe are revitalizing arts education, strengthening music and drama, and launching a new National Center for Arts and Music Education to support teachers and raise standards. Learning music at school made a huge difference to my life.
