\n\tHarlem rapper Max B<\/a> was released from prison Sunday after serving 16 years for his role in a botched armed robbery that resulted in a man\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe rapper born Charley Wingate, who released a string of mixtapes and popularized the term \u201cwavy\u201d prior to his 2007 arrest on manslaughter and armed robbery charges, revealed earlier this year in a phone interview from prison that he would be released on Nov. 9, 2025.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m feeling righteous, man,\u201d Max told the Joe Budden Podcast earlier this year. \u201cI\u2019m doing all right. This is almost over. \u2026 Wavy Baby coming home real soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2009, Max B was sentenced to 75 years in prison, accused of being an accomplice to a robbery in New Jersey that ended in murder. (The rapper was not in the state at the time.) The conviction was later vacated in 2016, after a new legal team argued that Max\u2019s original trial lawyer had a conflict of interest in the case. His sentence was subsequently reduced to 20 years.<\/p>\n

\n\tFrench Montana, who Max B collaborated with on their 2009 mixtape Coke Wave<\/em>, was among those who greeted the rapper following his prison release Sunday. \u201cCANT MAKE THIS UP ! MY BROTHER REALLY CAME HOME ON MY B DAY !\u201d Montana wrote on social media. \u201cHAMDULILLAH WALKED IT DOWN ! NO MORE FREE YOU.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDespite being behind bars, Max B still managed to release new music<\/a> from prison, often recording his verses over the phone. Following his 2011 album Vigilante Season<\/em>, Max B and Montana reunited in 2019 for \u201cHold On<\/a>,\u201d his first new song in eight years. In between, Max B also appeared on the track \u201cSiiiiiiiiilver Surffffeeeeer Intermission\u201d that featured on Kanye West\u2019s 2016 album The Life of Pablo<\/em>. Earlier this year, the rapper contributed \u201cMax B Interlude\u201d to Wiz Khalifa\u2019s Kush + Orange Juice 2<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tSoon after his release, Max B already hinted at new music in a social media post. \u201cITS TIME TO OPEN THE FLOOD GATES \ud83c\udf0a\ud83c\udf0a\ud83c\udf0a SEE YALL IN A FEW,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n
