The mellow-voiced country singer, introspective songwriter, ace guitarist, and member of the Eagles has been named recipient of the CMA Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. Gill is slated to accept the accolade this month when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-country\/2025-cma-awards-performers-1235460548\/\">CMAs<\/a> air Nov. 19 on ABC live from Nashville.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tKnown for such songs as \u201cWhen I Call Your Name,\u201d \u201cOne More Last Chance,\u201d \u201cShoot Straight From the Heart,\u201d and the timeless \u201cGo Rest High on That Mountain,\u201d Gill is a living legend among country artists. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007. This year, he gave the induction speech for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-country\/2025-country-music-hall-of-fame-inductees-kenny-chesney-1235302927\/\">producer Tony Brown<\/a>, who produced a string of Gill albums in the Nineties at MCA Nashville.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tGill, an Oklahoma native, is ubiquitous around Nashville, regularly headlining the Ryman Auditorium, both solo and with wife Amy Grant, sitting in with other artists onstage (he was a member of Western swing band the Time Jumpers for nearly a decade), and singing \u201cGo Rest High on That Mountain\u201d at the funeral services of departed country icons like George Jones and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-country\/charlie-daniels-dead-obituary-629237\/\">Charlie Daniels<\/a>. In September, he and Lainey Wilson performed the song for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/tv-movies\/tv-movie-news\/emmys-2025-in-memoriam-1235426497\/\">In Memoriam segment<\/a> of the 77th Emmy Awards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn 2017, Gill became a touring member of the Eagles, joining Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit in carrying on the California band following the 2016 death of Glenn Frey. Last year\u2019s recipient was George Strait.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe 59th <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/cma-awards\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cma-awards\" data-tag=\"cma-awards\">CMA Awards<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/lainey-wilson-hosting-cma-awards-without-luke-bryan-1235442560\/\">hosted by Lainey Wilson<\/a>, air live from Nashville on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and stream the following day on Hulu.
