YouTuber Cody Detwiler, better known as WhistlinDiesel<\/a>, is speaking out again following his recent arrest on felony tax evasion charges \u2014 and this time, he\u2019s offering a more pointed explanation.<\/p>\n The 27-year-old was arrested on Nov. 12 in Williamson County, Tenn., in connection with sales tax allegedly owed on a 2020 Ferrari F8.<\/p>\n The car made headlines after it went up in flames during one of Detwiler\u2019s viral stunt videos.<\/p>\n Now, Detwiler says the charges stem from registering that Ferrari in Montana<\/a> \u2014 a move he claims is common among luxury car owners, and completely legal.<\/p>\n In a series of Instagram Stories<\/a>, the influencer said he believes Tennessee officials are targeting him to send a message to others in the high-end car space.<\/p>\n Read More:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>11 Great Country Songs About Getting Arrested<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cThis entire thing is about registering my Ferrari F8 in Montana (the car that burned down),\u201d he wrote. \u201cMontana doesn\u2019t require sales tax on vehicles.\u201d<\/p>\n Detwiler claims the state is now trying to frame the move as criminal.<\/p>\n \u201cThey have an angle that this is tax evasion,\u201d he said, warning followers: \u201cDo not move your Montana registrations to TN. This is exactly what they want and why they are trying to go after me.\u201d<\/p>\n The YouTube star \u2014 who has more than 10 million subscribers \u2014 says authorities are trying to make an example out of him to crack down on similar registration tactics.<\/p>\n \u201cThey think it will make a wave through the luxury car community and bring in tax money,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n Detwiler has maintained his innocence and said he received no notice before the arrest.<\/p>\n He also confirmed he spent several hours in jail before posting bond. (100% real, not AI).\u201d<\/p>\n In a follow-up, he said: \u201cI have ALWAYS paid ALL of my taxes, and I\u2019m still not sure what this is all for.
