\n<\/p>\n
\n\tElton John<\/a> has a fresh set of lyrics from Bernie Taupin<\/a>, and \u201ccan\u2019t wait\u201d to get into the studio and put them to music.<\/p>\n \n\tIn a new interview with Variety<\/a><\/em>, the legendary musician said his songwriting partner had recently sent him lyrics for seven new songs, describing them as \u201creally, really good.\u201d John added that he was excited to get into the studio with producer Andrew Watt<\/a> \u201cand just write and see what happens.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tIf these songs do mark the start of new album for John, it could be his first solo LP with all new material from Taupin since 2016\u2019s Wonderful Crazy Night<\/a><\/em>. In recent years, John has focused largely on collaborative projects, like 2021\u2019s The Lockdown Sessions<\/a><\/em>, which featured a mix of covers and original material<\/a> co-written with the various artists<\/a> John was working with. (Taupin\u2019s only writing credit was on \u201cCold Heart,\u201d the Dua Lipa collab that reinterpreted and sampled four old John\/Taupin songs<\/a>, including \u201cRocket Man.\u201d)<\/p>\n \n\tMore recently, John and Brandi Carlile teamed up<\/a> for the collaborative LP, Who Believes in Angels?<\/em><\/a>, which was released in April. Taupin did contribute some lyrics to that project, but John said he was looking forward to doing something new and timely with his longtime collaborator.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cThe album with Brandi, it\u2019s a timeless record, but it\u2019s not of<\/em> its time,\u201d he said. \u201cWe just wanted to make a record that we loved, with great songs. That was a yesterday record, and it was fantastic. But there is a part of me that wants to do a much more commercial record and do more Bernie Taupin<\/a> songs that are more of today than yesterday.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tElsewhere in the interview, John spoke about how much he still enjoys playing the occasional live gig, but how happy he is to no longer be a touring musician<\/a>. He even quipped that, when filming a cameo for the This Is Spinal Tap<\/em> sequel<\/a>, he arrived at the arena in New Orleans and told Furnish, \u201cI\u2019m having hives. I\u2019m backstage, and I don\u2019t want to ever be in a place like this ever again!\u201d<\/p>\n
