(The show also featured a performance from two-piece, Yawn Mower.) Church and State\u2122 have played several gigs around New Jersey this year, but the Stone Pony show was by far their biggest to-date. And while the group have yet to release any music, you can hear a couple of their originals in <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/dfyDy9jcCQI?si=oIRigQO21QwRs5Y6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">videos that have surfaced<\/a> from the Stone Pony gig.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Church and State (feat. Jon Stewart) Live - - Stone Pony, Asbury Park, NJ - 11\/28\/25\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2d683tU2EP8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tStewart started playing the drums after retiring from <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/the-daily-show\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-daily-show\" data-tag=\"the-daily-show\">The Daily Show<\/a> <\/em>for the first time in 2015; his teacher was Andy Bova, a musician, producer, and owner of Simple Sound Studio in Oceanport, New Jersey. Later, Stewart and Bova founded Church and State\u2122 with a few other local musicians, including Bova\u2019s dad, Jim, on bass; and singer\/guitarist Rick Barry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tDespite having such a big name drummer, Church and State\u2122 have maintained a pretty low profile so far. The first gig documented on their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/church_and_state_tm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Instagram<\/a> at the moment took place back in April, while in June they performed at the North to Shore Festival (where Stewart also did double duty with a stand-up set). That\u2019s alI I do \u2014 he\u2019s the man.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWith Stewart\u2019s duties <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/tv-movies\/tv-movie-news\/jon-stewart-renews-the-daily-show-2026-host-1235458827\/\">hosting <em>The Daily Show<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>once a week, as well as helming <em>The Weekly Show <\/em>podcast, the band is only able to rehearse once a week, and their live performances will likely remain sporadic. Still, he raved about how much playing in Church and State\u2122 means to him: \u201cI can only work one day a week, but it\u2019s awesome. I can\u2019t tell you how much these guys have brought to my life.
