Well, Gilmour wasn\u2019t even nominated. They also put up the Cure\u2019s <em>Songs of a Lost World<\/em> and Wet Leg\u2019s <em>Moisturizer<\/em> for Best Alternative Music Album as opposed to Best Rock Album. But, hey, at least we were right about Yunglud\u2019s <em>Idols<\/em> getting the nod. To very roughly paraphrase the words of 1994 Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo winner Meatloaf, one out of five ain\u2019t bad.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-nominees\" class=\"heading larva \/\/   lrv-a-font-primary-l   \">\n\t\tThe Nominees\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/deftones\/\" id=\"auto-tag_deftones\" data-tag=\"deftones\">Deftones<\/a> \u2013 <em>Private Music<\/em><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/haim\/\" id=\"auto-tag_haim\" data-tag=\"haim\">Haim<\/a> \u2013 <em>I Quit<\/em><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/linkin-park\/\" id=\"auto-tag_linkin-park\" data-tag=\"linkin-park\">Linkin Park<\/a> \u2013 <em>From Zero<\/em><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/turnstile\/\" id=\"auto-tag_turnstile\" data-tag=\"turnstile\">Turnstile<\/a> \u2013 <em>Never Enough<\/em><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/yungblud\/\" id=\"auto-tag_yungblud\" data-tag=\"yungblud\">Yungblud<\/a> \u2013 <em>Idols<\/em><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Emptiness Machine (Official Music Video) - Linkin Park\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SRXH9AbT280?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"the-lowdown\" class=\"heading larva \/\/   lrv-a-font-primary-l   \">\n\t\tThe Lowdown\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe first big surprise this year was the nomination for Linkin Park\u2019s comeback LP, <em>From Zero<\/em>. It\u2019s their first record in seven years, the first since the death of of Chester Bennington, and the formal introduction of new vocalist Emily Armstrong. Linkin Park\u2019s sole Best Rock Album nomination came all the way back in 2002 when <em>Hybrid Theory<\/em> lost out to U2\u2019s <em>All That You Can\u2019t Leave Behind<\/em>. And even though <em>From Zero <\/em>revived the group and got them back on the road, it wasn\u2019t universally loved.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cThis was surprising since the reaction has been mixed from a radio perspective,\u201d says Jason Squires, program director of KFRR in Fresno, California. \u201cBut they\u2019re selling tickets and everything else. I also think they [replaced Bennington] in a good way since they didn\u2019t try to get a dude from a tribute or anything like that. They brought in someone completely different. They should be commended for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"deftones - my mind is a mountain [official music video]\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eVqZrI9JE6Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe Deftones emerged from roughly the same nu-metal scene that birthed Linkin Park back in the Nineties, but they abandoned that sound quite a while ago and have built up a large and loyal following despite flying just below the mainstream cultural radar. Their new LP <em>Private Music<\/em> is excellent. \u201cIt arrived with no gimmick or plea for relevancy,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/Academy%20of%20Arts%20and%20Sciences\" target=\"_blank\">wrote <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s Hank Shteamer.<\/a> \u201cIt\u2019s simply another great record from an outfit that already sounded fully confident in its core aesthetic \u2014 a juxtaposition of grinding alt-metal riffage, and deep, sensuous yearning.\u201d<\/p>\n<section class=\"brands-most-popular \/\/ editors-pick-module lrv-u-margin-tb-2 lrv-u-border-a-2 u-box-shadow-5-5 lrv-u-padding-lr-1 a-span1 u-padding-b-1@tablet u-overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 id=\"section-heading\" class=\"c-heading larva  lrv-u-text-align-center u-border-color-black a-font-theme-primary-xxs lrv-u-color-black lrv-u-text-transform-uppercase u-letter-spacing-0063 lrv-u-padding-t-050 u-padding-b-0375@tablet lrv-u-padding-b-050@mobile-max lrv-u-border-b-2\">\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/section>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"HAIM - Relationships (Official Video)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dOI_QTmK8Ks?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHaim\u2019s nomination for <em>I Quit<\/em> isn\u2019t surprising because they were put up for Best Rock Performance and Album of the Year in 2021, and 2022\u2019s <em>Evermore<\/em> got the nod for Album of the Year. <em>I Quit <\/em>was a critical favorite that brought them to venues like New York\u2019s Madison Square Garden for the first time. \u201cI really like these ladies,\u201d says SiriusXM DJ Justin Kade. \u201cBut they\u2019re another act that, much like Machine Gun Kelly, can\u2019t find their lane. They\u2019re too pop for indie, and too indie for pop. If it were the Nineties, they\u2019d fit in with the Sheryl Crows and Alanis Morissettes, but that sound doesn\u2019t really exist in 2025. All that said, music is in their blood, and I really like this album. \u2018Down to Be Wrong\u2019 and \u2018Everybody\u2019s Tying to Figure Me Out\u2019 are both amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"TURNSTILE - NEVER ENOUGH [OFFICIAL VIDEO]\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Nfk1Su1Q8SI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tTurnstile has yet to win a Grammy despite nominations for Best Metal Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Best Rock Song and Best Metal Performance Back in 2023. Odds are pretty decent they\u2019ll pick up at least one this year because they\u2019re up in five categories: Best Alternative Music Performance, Best Metal Performance, Best Rock Performance, and Best Rock Album. There\u2019s already a passion for him. They\u2019ve finally gotten over the hump of how they\u2019ve been perceived in this industry. And they\u2019re just everything I like about rock music.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"who-will-win\" class=\"heading larva \/\/   lrv-a-font-primary-l   \">\n\t\tWho Will Win\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<strong>Turnstile \u2013 <em>Never Enough<\/em> <\/strong><br \/>This is clearly a breakthrough year for Turnstile since they have five nominations. If they pick up one, expect it to be for Best Rock Album. \u201cThey do this post-hardcore thing that\u2019s palatable for everyone,\u201d says Squires. \u201cAnd they\u2019re not a nostalgic band.
