All the while, there\u2019s been no shortage of discourse about rap\u2019s current status in the mainstream, as the genre\u2019s lackluster chart performance this year might\u2019ve suggested a slowdown in innovation. What the best hip-hop songs of the year prove, however, is that rap has never been more expansive and full of life. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHip-Hop songs in 2025, rather than play into mainstream expectations, bucked against musical trends, forming new sonic compositions that, as typically happens, will surely set the trends of the future. Consider a song like \u201cFather,\u201d from the U.K.- based artist Jim Legxacy. With an economy of language, he\u2019s able to convey a philosopher\u2019s text worth of ideas. Or in the undeniably infectious \u201cWTHelly,\u201d by Rob49, which essentially invented a new word \u2014 or vocal tick \u2014 around the start of this year. Intentional or not, \u201cTweaker\u201d unlocked a new path for paying hip-hop homage. Fridayy starts the track mourning his father with an earworm cadence that elucidates his pain. Zay happily cleared the sample, telling Pluto, \u201cYou done turned me up again.\u201d Part of the appeal of \u201cWhim Whamiee\u201d lay in its contagious ad-libs like \u201cWe deep as fuck, ho!\u201d \u201cLululemon!\u201d and \u201cI\u2019m talmbout innit!\u201d \u2013 which Pluto leaned on YK Niece for. Both artists\u2019 deliberate cadences fit the pounding percussion, true to the house scene\u2019s penchant for chants and mantra-like choruses.
