Based on the tepid box-office numbers this year, there are only two possibilities: Either the movies of 2025<\/a> were\u00a0uniformly awful, or a lot of good films\u00a0got a bad shake\u00a0in multiplexes.<\/p>\n I vote for the latter. I saw so many interesting, funny, strange, and thoughtful 2025 films in theaters (and on streaming) whose releases\u00a0merit comparison to the proverbial tree falling in the woods. They\u00a0opened, they closed. They streamed, nobody talked about them, they\u00a0fell off the front page of Netflix<\/a> or Amazon\u2019s Prime Video<\/a>, and that was that.<\/p>\n These movies deserved better \u2014 so today I\u2019m singling out ten\u00a0such underrated 2025 titles. Back in my podcasting days<\/a>, my show did an annual awards episode\u00a0where we gave out the \u201cThey Didn\u2019t Get It Award.\u201d\u00a0It was an inelegant name for exactly this; the films that came and went with little fanfare (or, in some cases, inexplicably poor reviews).<\/p>\n One article won\u2019t balance the scales completely here, but maybe it will get at least a few people to circle back and check out some of these films that they avoided (or maybe didn\u2019t even know existed) when they were first released to theaters or streaming. (The nice part about a streaming flop is a lot of those titles remain available in perpetuity, so\u00a0it\u2019s relatively easy to catch up with them.) Maybe\u00a0these movies\u00a0didn\u2019t get\u00a0their due the first time around.
