What a magnificent guitar player who gave us so much! Rest in peace.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/jethro-tull-albums-ranked\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jethro Tull Albums Ranked Worst to Best<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Mick Abrahams&#8217; Early Career: Jethro Tull and Blodwyn Pig Success<\/h3>\n<p>Born on April 7, 1943 in Luton, Bedfordshire, England, Abrahams co-founded\u00a0Jethro Tull in 1967 alongside vocalist <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/ian-anderson\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ian Anderson<\/a>, bassist Glenn Cornick and drummer Clive Bunker. He played on the band&#8217;s debut album,\u00a0<em>This Was<\/em>, released in October 1968.<\/p>\n<p>Abrahams&#8217; tenure with Jethro Tull was short-lived. He left the band in December 1968, in part because of disagreements over the band&#8217;s musical direction. Abrahams brought prominent blues rock and jazz fusion elements to the group, while future releases would feature Jethro Tull&#8217;s classic mix of prog and folk rock.<\/p>\n<p>Following his departure from Jethro Tull, Abrahams formed the blues rock band Blodwyn Pig. They released two albums, 1969&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Ahead Rings Out<\/em> and 1970&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Getting to This<\/em>, both of which reached the Top 10 on the UK Albums Chart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe could hold our own with any company,&#8221; Abrahams told\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.loudersound.com\/features\/mick-abrahams-jethro-tull-blodwyn-pig\" target=\"_blank\">Prog<\/a><\/em> in 2018.\u00a0&#8220;It didn\u2019t bother us if we were put on the bill with <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/king-crimson\" target=\"_blank\">Crimson<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/led-zeppelin\/\" target=\"_blank\">Zeppelin<\/a>. Nothing changed for us, and nothing phased us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/prog-best-albums\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Best Album by Prog&#8217;s 15 Biggest Artists<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Mick Abrahams&#8217;\u00a0Later Years and Health Issues<\/h3>\n<p>Blodwyn Pig initially disbanded in 1970 but reformed intermittently over the years.\u00a0Abrahams formed the short-lived Wommett, then embarked on a solo career, releasing his self-titled debut album in 1971.\u00a0Several more solo albums followed over the years, as did albums with the reformed Blodwyn Pig.<\/p>\n<p>Health issues later made it nearly impossible for Abrahams to play guitar. &#8220;I had two heart attacks and a stroke almost at the same time [in November 2009]. Those have left their mark on me,&#8221; he told\u00a0<em>Prog<\/em>. &#8220;These days, I can join in a bit on guitar with others, but nowhere near the level I was once able to achieve.
