\n\tPolice in England will not bring charges against Bob Vylan<\/a> following an investigation into the punk-rap duo\u2019s chants<\/a> of \u201cDeath, death, to the I.D.F.\u201d (referring to the Israel Defense Forces) and \u201cFree, free Palestine\u201d at the 2025 Glastonbury Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n \n\tThe Avon and Somerset Constabulary in England announced the end <\/a>of its investigation on Tuesday, Dec. 23.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWe have concluded, after reviewing all the evidence, that [the chant] does not meet the criminal threshold outlined by the CPS [Crown Prosecution Service] for any person to be prosecuted,\u201d the police said. \u201cNo further action will be taken on the basis there is insufficient evidence for there to be a realistic prospect of conviction.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe police shared some details about the investigation, saying they consulted with the CPS, another police force, the National Police Chiefs\u2019 Council\u2019s hate crimes department, an independent lawyer, and representatives \u201camong our Jewish communities.\u201d They also revealed that they \u201cconducted a voluntary police interview\u201d with a man in his mid-thirties in November (though he was not identified), and spoke with about 200 people who had attended the festival.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWe sought specific consideration around the words stated, in terms of the intent behind them, the wider context of how people heard what was said, case law and anything else potentially relevant, including freedom of speech,\u201d the police said. \u201cEvery case must be treated on its own merits.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tBob Vylan did not immediately return Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s request for comment.<\/p>\n \n\tBob Vylan frontman, Bobby Vylan (real name Pascal Robinson-Foster) led the chants during the band\u2019s performance at Glastonbury<\/a> on June 28. Condemnation and accusations of antisemitism quickly followed, as Glastonbury organizers denounced the chant<\/a>, the United States revoked the band\u2019s travel visas<\/a>, and other festivals started dropping<\/a> Bob Vylan from their lineups. The police investigation began in July.<\/p>\n \n\tThe band, long supporters of Palestine, stood by the chants and denied the allegations of antisemitism. In an initial Instagram post<\/a>, Bobby Vylan wrote, \u201cI said what I said,\u201d adding that he had received \u201cmessages of both support and hatred.\u201d <\/p>\n
