\n\tThe annual Christmas<\/a> Eve jazz<\/a> concert at the Kennedy Center<\/a> was canceled following the addition of Donald Trump\u2019s name<\/a> to the once-venerable Washington, D.C. venue.<\/p>\n \n\tFor over 20 years, the Kennedy Center has hosted the Christmas Eve Jazz Jam on Dec. 24. However, musician Chuck Redd \u2014 who has led the event since 2006 \u2014 opted to cancel this year\u2019s concert following the controversial (and possibly illegal<\/a>) decision to add Trump branding to the facade of the venue.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWhen I saw the name change on the Kennedy Center website and then hours later on the building, I chose to cancel our concert,\u201d Redd told the Associated Press<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n \n\tOn the (Trump) Kennedy Center website, the listing<\/a> for the free Christmas Eve Jazz Jam concert said \u201c(Canceled)\u201d without explanation. \u201cJoin in our annual Christmas Eve Jazz Jam for an evening of music that\u2019ll fill you with holiday cheer,\u201d the event promised.<\/p>\n \n\tFollowing Trump\u2019s self-appointment as Kennedy Center chairman,\u00a0at least 26 performances have been canceled<\/a>, including 15 by the scheduled acts themselves. Issa Rae cancelled her Feb. 14 show, citing \u201can infringement on the values of an institution that has faithfully celebrated artists of all backgrounds through all mediums.\u201d On Feb. 13, Low Cut Connie, the Philadelphia rock and soul band fronted by Adam Weiner,\u00a0cancelled their March 19 concert.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tLin-Manuel Miranda and Jefferey Seller were supposed to bring\u00a0Hamilton\u00a0to the Kennedy Center in 2026, but\u00a0cancelled the run<\/a>, saying, \u201cThe Kennedy Center was not created in this spirit, and we\u2019re not going to be a part of it while it is the Trump Kennedy Center. We\u2019re just not going to be part of it.\u201d A\u00a0concert by the Gay Men\u2019s Chorus of Washington<\/a>\u00a0was also canceled.<\/p>\n
