Nu-metal and rap-rock seemed to be ready to step up with killer albums from <a href=\"https:\/\/loudwire.com\/tags\/rage-against-the-machine\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rage Against the Machine<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/loudwire.com\/tags\/korn\/\" target=\"_blank\">Korn<\/a> leading the way. <a href=\"https:\/\/loudwire.com\/tags\/pantera\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pantera<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/loudwire.com\/tags\/tool\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tool<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/loudwire.com\/tags\/metallica\/\" target=\"_blank\">Metallica<\/a> seemed to be grunge-proof metal bands that continued to thrive, while <a href=\"https:\/\/loudwire.com\/tags\/opeth\/\" target=\"_blank\">Opeth<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/loudwire.com\/tags\/in-flames\/\" target=\"_blank\">In Flames<\/a> were just starting to make a name for themselves as more extreme metal outfits.<\/p>\n<p>It was a year that introduced us to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/14kuVYuTKbw?si=JGizjIR6apROE1l8\" target=\"_blank\">The Daily Show<\/a><\/em>, the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/L8Pbjh4EZRk?si=YI0GzEmqTw35Cb3T\" target=\"_blank\">Mission: Impossible<\/a><\/em> film franchise, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ra8PqVqRyNM?si=C_ZJ0e3yUztTF484\" target=\"_blank\">MTV2<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/FoM2DF0tQIQ?si=pJ8KBs1V2AtFcKiG\" target=\"_blank\">Tickle Me Elmo<\/a>, but it was also a year where we enjoyed the bittersweet success of <a href=\"https:\/\/loudwire.com\/tags\/sublime\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sublime<\/a>&#8216;s stellar self-titled set released shortly after the death of signer Bradley Nowell.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/loudwire.com\/most-anticipated-rock-metal-albums-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Most Anticipated Rock + Metal Albums of 2026<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A lot has changed in 30 years.
