Fires"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cWe don\u2019t want Altadena to be given up or forgotten,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/dawes\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dawes\" data-tag=\"dawes\">Dawes<\/a> frontman Taylor Goldsmith shortly before taking the stage at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Wednesday night for a sold-out benefit concert to raise funds for  the rebuilding effort on the one-year anniversary of L.A.\u2019s Eaton and Palisades fires. \u201cThis community is a really special thing worth protecting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAlong with Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman, Taylor\u2019s brother, the band\u2019s drummer Griffin Goldsmith, and Grammy-winning guitarist Eric Krasno, who has worked with Lettuce, Soulive and the Tedeschi-Trucks Band, among others, were the principal movers behind Wednesday night\u2019s all-star affair, which featured the Killers\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/brandon-flowers\/\" id=\"auto-tag_brandon-flowers\" data-tag=\"brandon-flowers\">Brandon Flowers<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/stephen-stills\/\" id=\"auto-tag_stephen-stills\" data-tag=\"stephen-stills\">Stephen Stills<\/a>, Brad Paisley, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/mandy-moore\/\" id=\"auto-tag_mandy-moore\" data-tag=\"mandy-moore\">Mandy Moore<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/lucius\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lucius\" data-tag=\"lucius\">Lucius<\/a>, Rufus Wainwright, Judith Hill, Everclear, Aloe Blacc, Jenny Lewis, Lord Huron, and East L.A. fixtures Ozomatli.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tNot everyone on the impressive lineup was directly impacted by what happened \u2014 Flowers is a Utah resident, and Paisley has a place in Santa Barbara \u2014 but a great many lost their homes in the fires, which took the lives of 19 people and destroyed more than 9,000 structures. That included host <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/john-c-reilly\/\" id=\"auto-tag_john-c-reilly\" data-tag=\"john-c-reilly\">John C. Reilly<\/a>, who offered some expletive-laced comments directed at both our current President \u2014 \u201cRemember what Trump said after the fires? \u2018They should rake their leaves.\u2019 Know what I say to that? Fuck you!\u201d \u2014 and Southern California Edison, the latter subjects of a massive class action lawsuit for their alleged role in the tragedy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBeneficiaries of the benefit concert, which raised $450,000, include the Altadena Builds Back Foundation, and by extension, Habitat for Humanity, the one-time home of the late President Jimmy Carter, dedicated to helping in the rebuilding effort.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cTheir feet are on the ground,\u201d acknowledged Krasno of both organizations. \u201cIt\u2019s not just for homeowners either, but for all those renters who can\u2019t afford to return in terms of providing low-income housing. They are putting together plans with the intent of expediting the process. He is unsure whether he will return, based on the outcome of the SCE lawsuit. \u201cWe\u2019re keeping our options open,\u201d he said. \u201cRight now, we\u2019re just taking it day by day, making sure my kid is safe and my wife is getting a few hours sleep.\u00a0Just trying to keep our eye on the horizon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tOpening with a Native American chant from Tina Caldorone and a performance from the local Pasadena Waldorf Kids Choir, local mainstays Ozomatli took the stage with an announcement: \u201cAre you ready for a revolution?\u201d The band launched into a spirited \u201cCome Ves,\u201d featuring a sitar solo, before being joined by Black Eyed Peas\u2019 Tabu and young daughter Jet Gomez for \u201cStand Strong,\u201d a new song they wrote especially for the event. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tEverclear\u2019s Art Alexakis, wearing an Altadena Strong T-shirt, was raised in Santa Monica (\u201cIn Ocean Park\u2026 the poor section known as Dogtown,\u201d he shared), but now lives in the community, where he was forced to spend five months in a hotel while his home was cleared from smoke damage. \u201cAnyone listen to KROQ in the Nineties?,\u201d he asked to a chorus of cheers. Taylor Goldsmith joined Paisley on \u201cRaining Inside,\u201d an eerily prophetic song they started working on before the fires.
