{"id":55235,"date":"2026-01-09T15:09:39","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T15:09:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/09\/morrissey-announces-new-album-make-up-is-a-lie-drops-leadoff-single\/"},"modified":"2026-01-09T15:09:39","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T15:09:39","slug":"morrissey-announces-new-album-make-up-is-a-lie-drops-leadoff-single","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/09\/morrissey-announces-new-album-make-up-is-a-lie-drops-leadoff-single\/","title":{"rendered":"Morrissey Announces New Album Make-Up Is A Lie, Drops Leadoff Single"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tA little over a year after telling a live audience that <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/stereogum.com\/2288051\/morrissey-says-nobody-will-release-his-new-album-because-free-speech-is-criminalized\/news\">\u201cnobody will release my music anymore because I\u2019m a chief exponent of free speech,\u201d<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/morrissey\/\" id=\"auto-tag_morrissey\" data-tag=\"morrissey\">Morrissey<\/a> has indeed found a label willing to release his new LP <em>Make-Up Is A Lie. <\/em>The album will arrive February 27 via Sire\/Warner Bros., and the title track is available right now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe album was cut with producer Joe Chiccarelli, who Morrissey previously worked with on 2020\u2019s<em> I Am Not a Dog on a Chain<\/em>, 2019\u2019s covers collection <em>California Son<\/em>, 2017\u2019s <em>Low In High School<\/em>, and 2014\u2019s <em>World Peace Is None of Your Business.<\/em> They recorded it at the Studio La Fabrique in the Saint-R\u00e9my-de-Provence region of Southern France with help from musicians Jesse Tobias, Camila Grey, Carmen Vandenberg, Juan Galeano, Alain Whyte, Gustavo Manzur, and Brendan Buckley.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Roxy Music - Amazona (1974)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0CbJSoI-XlQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tEleven new songs were written for <em>Make-Up Is a Lie<\/em>, and they also recorded a cover of the 1973 Roxy Music classic \u201cAmazona.\u201d He\u2019s never performed the song in concert, but Morrissey is a lifelong Roxy Music fan, and he sang their 1973 tune \u201cStreet Life\u201d on his 2006 summer tour of Europe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tMorrissey originally called the new album <em>You\u2019re Right, It\u2019s Time.<\/em> Production was complete three years ago, but Morrissey said he was unable to find a distributor. Throughout that time, he toured throughout Europe and America, playing sets packed with Smiths classics and solo tunes. But in typical Morrissey fashion, many of the shows were cancelled at the last minute.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Morrissey - There Is a Light That Never Goes Out @ Radio City Music Hall - 09\/16\/2025\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/b5xtddssmGc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHe was supposed to kick off an American tour January 3 in Rancho Mirage, California. It was postponed a day before due to \u201can adverse reaction to a prescription medication.\u201d Not long afterwards, h<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/morrissey-cancels-california-concerts-1235493804\/\">e yanked a planned January 6 show in San Diego<\/a> for reasons that weren\u2019t explained. As of now, the tour is supposed to begin January 10 in San Antonio, Texas. But nothing will be official until the lights dim and Morrissey walks onto the stage.
