Labi Siffre<\/a>, the 80-year-old British folk musician, is back after spending decades out of the spotlight. He just announced his first new album in 28 years; the appropriately titled Unfinished Business<\/em> is out later this year on Demon Music Group<\/a>. He\u2019s also shared the new song \u201cFar Away<\/a>,\u201d a piano ballad that leans into Siffre\u2019s soul influences, with a music video. Check it out below.<\/p>\n Siffre took a sporadic approach to releasing music over the years, dropping six albums in a five-year span during the \u201970s, including his standout LP Crying Laughing Loving Lying<\/em><\/a>, before retiring. However, he returned for brief stints in the \u201980s and \u201990s. His last records, the full-length album The Last Songs<\/em> and the spoken-word poetry collection Monument<\/em>, both came out in 1998.<\/p>\n Still, Siffre hasn\u2019t been totally silent this decade: he released the single \u201c(Love Is Love Is Love) Why Isn\u2019t Love Enough?\u201d in 2020, and the 2022 BBC documentary Labi Siffre: This Is My Song<\/em> featured a version of \u201cFar Away,\u201d but the song was never officially released before today. What\u2019s more, Siffre made a rare live appearance in the BBC Radio 2 Piano room to promote his upcoming album, tapping the BBC Radio Orchestra to accompany him for live renditions of \u201cMy Song,\u201d \u201cFar Away,\u201d and a cover of the Four Tops\u2019 \u201cBaby I Need Your Loving.\u201d Watch those clips below.<\/p>\n It seems the recent surge of renewed interest in Siffre\u2019s music, including licensing syncs in films like The Holdovers<\/em> and Sentimental Value<\/em>, may be to thank for his big comeback. In 2024, official YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok channels were finally launched for Siffre\u2019s music, as were new interviews and restored videos, as Stereogum<\/a> points out.
