The list includes classic-rock icons (U2, Eagles), country superstars (Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band), jam bands (Phish, Dead and Company), <em>TRL<\/em>-era favorites (Backstreet Boys, No Doubt), and EDM acts (Anyma, Illenium).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe wide spectrum of artists \u2014 which includes a seven-date run by Mexican singer-songwriter Car\u00edn Le\u00f3n this September \u2014 has made it very difficult to anticipate the venue\u2019s next moves. But that hasn\u2019t stopped prognosticators from trying, which is why we\u2019ve read so many reports about supposed residences by top-tier artists that never panned out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cHarry Styles is in final negotiations to do as many as 35 shows at the state-of-the-art music mecca,\u201d <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/03\/06\/business\/harry-styles-nearing-deal-for-35-show-residency-at-james-dolans-las-vegas-sphere-sources\/\">the <em>New York Post <\/em>reported in March 2025,<\/a> \u201cthat could begin as early as the second half of the year, sources with knowledge of the talks said.\u201d There may have been talks or even \u201cfinal negotiations,\u201d but Styles wound up booking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/harry-styles-2026-together-together-global-residency-tour-1235503295\/\">30 shows at New York\u2019s Madison Square Garden for this year.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe prior year, word spread widely that Beyonc\u00e9 was supposedly in negotiations. The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/07\/11\/business\/beyonce-sphere-end-residency-talks-but-singer-could-land-at-this-sin-city-venue-sources\/\"><em>New York Post <\/em>eventually shot them down.<\/a> \u201cThe sticking point turned out to be Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s demand for the Sphere to go dark for two weeks,\u201d they reported, \u201cso that she can rehearse, sources close to the situation said.\u201d (Sphere owner James Dolan eventually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/beyonce-cease-desist-sphere-cowboy-carter-tour-1235330841\/\">sent her a cease-and-desist letter<\/a> when she incorporated an image of Sphere into her Cowboy Carter stage show.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe calendar for the rest of this year includes Eagles, Anyma, Chesney, Backstreet Boys, No Doubt, Phish, and Car\u00edn Le\u00f3n. But there are enormous holes, and not even a hint at what might happen in 2027 and beyond. Here\u2019s a look at possible upcoming acts based on solid leads, a few rumors, and some fun, wild speculation. It\u2019s something that we\u2019re looking at at some point when the 2026 tour is done\u2026 I\u2019m not going to bullshit you; I would fucking love to do it, let there be no question about it. We\u2019ve been talking to those guys\u2026The preparation is pretty intense to get everything up\u2026 It\u2019s a very expensive endeavor and it takes a while to get into the black. I think it\u2019s a few shows before you make any money, but it would be work cut out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<strong>Why It Might Not Happen:<\/strong> Most Sphere acts have a catalog of hits that many tourists will recognize immediately. Tool are an enormous rock band that still packs arenas, but normies are only vaguely aware they exist. To put it another way, you\u2019re either in the cult or you\u2019re not. They might be slightly too niche for a place that regularly spotlights the Backstreet Boys and the Eagles. And as Carey says, it\u2019s not worth it to only play Sphere a few times. But they\u2019ve hit just about every possible market in the world at this point, even far-flung spots like Estonia, Bahrain, and Romania that most major acts bypass. This summer they\u2019re back to U.S. football stadiums yet again. A Sphere residency gives them an opportunity to do something different and pull fans back in that have grown tired of the standard show. The pre-reunion lineup did Vegas residencies in 2012 and 2014 at the Joint. This is a chance to do that again on a much larger scale, and with Slash and Duff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<strong>Why It Might Not Happen:<\/strong> Slash isn\u2019t feeling it. \u201cI\u2019m real trepidatious about playing there, because in almost every case for a band, it becomes a visual show as opposed to seeing a rock &amp; roll show,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/slash-guns-n-roses-sphere-residency-1235453708\/\">the guitarist told Eddie Trunk last year. <\/a>\u201cAnd so you have to sort of get into that mindset, and I think that\u2019s hard for us to go that far into it. But we\u2019ll see. They also have a catalog of hits (\u201cPersonal Jesus,\u201d \u201cEnjoy the Silence,\u201d \u201cJust Can\u2019t Get Enough,\u201d \u201cNever Let Me Down Again\u201d) that work spectacularly well in large spaces. They might not be able to book 40 shows like U2, but we can easily see an extended residency that brings in Depeche Mode fans from all over the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<strong>Why It Might Not Happen:<\/strong> Dave Gahan and Martin Gore have settled into a very comfortable groove where they release a new Depeche Mode album roughly every four years, which they support with a world tour. A Sphere residency would be a big break from tradition, and would require quite a bit of work to create visuals for every song. The actual artist playing is often just a tiny dot on the stage to much of the audience. This is a concept that Pink Floyd practically invented on their stadium shows of the Seventies. And Roger Waters continued to innovate in this realm throughout his many solo runs of the past three decades. It\u2019s hard to think of any catalog of music better suited to the strengths of Sphere than Pink Floyd. And since a reunion of the surviving members is impossible due to the simple fact that they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/pink-floyd-david-gilmour-roger-waters-reunion-shuts-down-1235124366\/\">loathe each other<\/a> and have piles of \u201cfuck you money,\u201d the closest thing we\u2019re likely to get is Waters. He loves playing live, has been off the road since December 2023, and simply feels like a natural for this place. If he agrees, he could easily sell out 100 nights.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<strong>Why It Might Not Happen: <\/strong>Mr. Waters isn\u2019t the easiest guy to deal with on this planet. He has very strong about opinions about, well\u2026<em>everything<\/em>. And his political views don\u2019t quite line up with the views of James Dolan, who has given money to Donald Trump. The U.S. leg of his 2025 <em>Luck &amp; Strange<\/em> run was simply New York and Los Angeles. But when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/david-gilmour-concert-film-sphere-1235414993\/\">we spoke to the Pink Floyd guitarist last year,<\/a> he didn\u2019t rule out playing at Sphere. \u201cI really know almost nothing about what it does,\u201d he says. \u201cBut they have been on and suggested that I might do something there. But in the future, who knows. I haven\u2019t got that far.\u201d We can envision a scenario where he plays a very limited run and it becomes a major event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<strong>Why It Might Not Happen:<\/strong> Gilmlour turns 80 in a few weeks, often goes a full decade between concert tours, loves being at home, and was in the dark about Sphere as a venue when we brought it up last year. It\u2019s not surprising they reached out to him considering the incredible potential for a Gilmour residency. Sadly, it doesn\u2019t feel like something that will ever happen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<strong>Odds: <\/strong>5%<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Radiohead - Day 4 Live at O2, London, 25\/11\/2025\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BxsaFh2_mrw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"radiohead\" class=\"heading larva \/\/   lrv-a-font-primary-l   \">\n\t\tRadiohead\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<strong>Why It Might Happen:<\/strong> Radiohead surprised fans late last year by emerging from a seven-year hiatus for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-live-reviews\/radiohead-2025-tour-opener-review-madrid-1235432512\/\">a run of arena shows in Europe.<\/a> In a break from tradition, they utilized a center stage setup with a giant video curtain that often obscured them completely from view. This is Sphere-like thinking. And if they decided to adapt a version of it for Sphere, there\u2019s almost no limit to how many tickets they\u2019d sell.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<strong>Why It Might Not Happen:<\/strong> First off, we have no idea if Radiohead plan on playing shows anywhere anytime soon. They keep their plans very, very secret. If it does happen, our gut tells us they\u2019ll consider Sphere too cheesy, too touristy, too Backstreet Boys-y. They\u2019ll prefer traditional festivals and arenas. We could be wrong. We certainly didn\u2019t see Europe happening last year. That\u2019s why they fill their calendar with movies like the AI-assisted <em>Wizard of Oz<\/em>, which  can run multiple times a day until demand dries up. The venue has also screened a U2 concert film for a period of time, but it could take that a step further by using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/kiss-avatars-2027-1234935608\/\">Kiss avatars we were promised back in 2023.<\/a> In theory, it could be an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/abba-voyage-residency-reunion-1352928\/\">ABBA-like show<\/a> where it looks like the four members of Kiss are actually playing live. And since Kiss have always been cartoon characters, they could morph into different creatures throughout the night. The<em> Wizard of Oz<\/em> movie has an actual tornado effect. Are there really that many people, night after night, willing to cough up big bucks to not see Kiss? Yes, the ABBA thing was a success in London. But those songs are bigger than the band, and ABBA is a sui generis group. There\u2019s nothing else like them. \u201cDetroit Rock City\u201d isn\u2019t \u201cDancing Queen.\u201d If people are paying money, they want to see the real guys play it. A Kiss Minus Kiss show sounds like an interesting novelty, but not a Sphere act. It\u2019s also a chance to redeem the PopMart tour, which got off to<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/u2tours.com\/tours\/reviews\/sam-boyd-stadium-las-vegas-apr-25-1997\/75\"> a very rocky start in Las Vegas back in 1997.<\/a> The <em>Pop<\/em> visuals were practically designed for Sphere, and the U2 faithful would be thrilled. Who could resist a chance to change history and finally make PopMart a winner?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<strong>Why It Might Not Happen: <\/strong>Because it\u2019s ridiculous. U2 have no intention of acknowledging the <em>Pop<\/em> anniversary, let alone turning it into a Sphere show. They\u2019ve also done the nostalgia thing enough, and are ready to finally move into the future. Phil Collins may not be physically able to play drums at this point, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/nic-collins-interview-genesis-phil-collins-better-strangers-1332977\/\">his son Nic took over for him on the 2021\/22 Genesis farewell tour<\/a> for the post-Peter Gabriel lineup, and is more than capable of handling the task again. Songs like \u201cThe Musical Box\u201d and \u201cSupper\u2019s Ready\u201d would benefit from all the bells and whistles that Sphere has to offer. And it could recreate the New York City streets of 1974 for a <em>Lamb Lies Down on Broadway<\/em> segment.
