Bad Bunny<\/a> has been cast in his first leading role in the feature directorial debut from Puerto Rican rapper Residente<\/a>, Deadline<\/em><\/a> reports. Described as an \u201cepic Caribbean western and historical drama,\u201d Porto Rico<\/em> will also star Viggo Mortensen, Edward Norton, and Javier Bardem. Alejandro G. I\u00f1\u00e1rritu is executive producing the film.<\/p>\n Porto Rico<\/em> has been in development since 2023<\/a>. At the time, the screenplay by Residente and Alexander Dinelaris reportedly centered on the life of Jos\u00e9 Maldonado Rom\u00e1n, a 19th century Puerto Rican revolutionary known as the \u00c1guila Blanca.<\/p>\n \u201cI have dreamed of making a film about my country since I was a child,\u201d Residente told Deadline<\/em>. \u201cPuerto Rico\u2019s true history has always been surrounded by controversy. This film is a reaffirmation of who we are\u2014told with the intensity and honesty that our history deserves.\u201d<\/p>\n Bad Bunny previously appeared in the Brad Pitt action flick Bullet Train<\/a>,<\/em> Darren Arnofsky\u2019s Caught Stealing<\/em><\/a>, and Happy Gilmore 2<\/em><\/a>. This month alone, he took home three trophies from the 2026 Grammy Awards<\/a>\u2014including a historic Album of the Year<\/a> win for Deb\u00ed Tirar M\u00e1s Fotos<\/em><\/a>\u2014and performed the halftime show<\/a> at Super Bowl LX.<\/p>\n
