The box set, <em>Queen II Reimagined: Deluxe Collector\u2019s Edition<\/em>, will come out on CD and LP, as well as digitally, on March 27.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe centerpiece of the release is a remix of the original album by three engineers: Justin Shirley-Smith, Joshua J Macrae, and Kris Fredriksson. The new mix aims to clean up instances in the original mix where the sound of the instruments overwhelmed the equipment of the time. \u201cRather than add anything, we wanted to reveal more of what was there and get that desired sound,\u201d Shirley-Smith said in a statement.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Queen II - Pre-order Now (Available March 27)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SRyWPoLFiKw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe album, originally released on March 8, 1974, showed the band focusing more on making grand, overarching statements than on the previous year\u2019s <em>Queen<\/em>. It opens with \u201cProcession,\u201d a guitar symphony constructed by May with volume swells, and the songs that follow straddle heavy metal and prog rock, split in half on the original LP with \u201cSide White\u201d and \u201cSide Black.\u201d The album\u2019s \u201cOgre Battle\u201d and \u201cWhite Queen (As It Began)\u201d were staples of Queen\u2019s set lists through the end of the Seventies. \u201cSeven Seas of Rhye,\u201d which featured Freddie Mercury\u2019s piano fanfares, became the band\u2019s first U.K. hit. The album subsequently made ardent fans out of Axl Rose, Billy Corgan, and Judas Priest\u2019s Rob Halford, who\u2019ve all sung its praises.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<em>\u201cQueen II<\/em> was the single biggest leap we ever made,\u201d May said in a statement. \u201cThat\u2019s when we really started making music the way we wanted to, rather than the way we were being pushed into recording it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cWith <em>Queen II,<\/em> I couldn\u2019t believe how much work we put into it,\u201d drummer Roger Taylor said. \u201cI think we felt we were evolving our own sound. We were pioneering this sort of multitracking thing. Notable tracks include Brian May\u2019s \u201cAs It Began,\u201d a 1969 recording that later became \u201cWhite Queen,\u201d and Taylor\u2019s two demos for \u201cLoser in the End.\u201d The disc also features \u201cNot for Sale (Polar Bear),\u201d a song the band worked on during the Queen II sessions but never finished. May teased it around Christmas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/queen-unreleased-christmas-song-not-for-sale-polar-bear-1235490450\/\">during a radio broadcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe \u201cbacking tracks\u201d disc presents versions of every song without vocals to highlight the band\u2019s musicianship. The \u201cAt the BBC\u201d disc includes sessions the band recorded with John Peel and Bob Harris in 1973 and \u201974. And the final disc features every song from <em>Queen II <\/em>recorded live at concerts around England in 1974 and \u201975. The collection also features a 112-page book, which includes outtakes from Rock\u2019s cover shoot and photos of handwritten lyrics, musical notation, journal entries, and letters to friends, as well as memorabilia from the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tLast fall, May and Taylor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/queen-bohemian-rhapsody-50th-anniversary-1235423897\/\">spoke with <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> about the making of another one of their masterpieces, \u201cBohemian Rhapsody.\u201d During the interview, they also teased what may be on the horizon for the band. \u201c\u200aI\u2019m very keen on the Sphere,\u201d May said. \u201cIt\u2019s got my mind working.
