{"id":58563,"date":"2026-02-20T19:16:45","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T19:16:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2026\/02\/20\/busta-rhymes-j-dilla-dropping-new-album-dillagence-2\/"},"modified":"2026-02-20T19:16:45","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T19:16:45","slug":"busta-rhymes-j-dilla-dropping-new-album-dillagence-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2026\/02\/20\/busta-rhymes-j-dilla-dropping-new-album-dillagence-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Busta Rhymes &#038; J Dilla Dropping New Album &#8216;Dillagence 2&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/artist\/busta-rhymes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Busta Rhymes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/artist\/j-dilla\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">J Dilla<\/a> are reuniting for a new album this year.<\/p>\n<p>The Flipmode Squad frontman held a listening session in New York City on Thursday night (February 20) for <em>Dillagence 2<\/em>, the sequel to his and Dilla\u2019s original 2007 mixtape.<\/p>\n<p>Joined by Statik Selektah and DJ Tony Touch, Busta gave a room full of lucky fans and friends the first opportunity to hear the project \u2014 which includes what appears to be a collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/artist\/lil-wayne\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lil Wayne<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Statik shared a brief snippet of a song seemingly featuring Weezy on his Instagram Stories, tagging the Young Money superstar in the clip. If so, it would be the first time that the world will get to hear Wayne rap over Dilla production.<\/p>\n<p>Announcing <em>Dillagence 2<\/em> ahead of the listening party on Instagram, Busta wrote: \u201cTHE BLESSINGS DON\u2019T STOP SO WE DON\u2019T STOP!!! NEVERRR!!! BREAKING NEWS!!!! [eyes emojis] BUSTA RHYMES x J DILLA NEW ALBUM!! POP UP LISTENING SESSION TONIGHT!! [fire emojis].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Further details, such as a release date or tracklist, have yet to be revealed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DU_XAfojRQy\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:640px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Released in November 2007, more than a year after J Dilla\u2019s untimely death, <em>Dillagence<\/em> served as a tribute to the late producer as Busta Rhymes made use of some of his most iconic beats, as well as a few original instrumentals.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by Mick Boogie, the mixtape featured appearances from fellow Dilla disciples <a href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/artist\/q-tip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Q-Tip<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/artist\/phonte\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Phonte<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/artist\/talib-kweli\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Talib Kweli<\/a>, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/artist\/raekwon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Raekwon<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/artist\/mop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M.O.P.<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/artist\/rah-digga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rah Digga<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>By the time of its release, Busta and Jay Dee had built up a chemistry as one of hip-hop\u2019s greatest rapper-producer duos, combining for countless classics such as \u201cStill Shining,\u201d \u201cShow Me What You Got\u201d and \u201cTurn Me Up Some.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Dilla was a mainstay throughout Busta\u2019s solo catalog, contributing to six of his first seven albums. (1998\u2019s <em>Extinction Level Event: The Final World Front<\/em> was the only one which didn\u2019t feature his sonic fingerprints.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJ Dilla left me with over 300 beats before he passed. I\u2019m extremely selective with who I give them to, which is why I haven\u2019t given them to anybody except Raekwon and that was for <em>Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Part Two<\/em>,\u201d Busta told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gq.com\/story\/busta-rhymes-ele-2-interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GQ<\/a><\/em> in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always tried to represent and uphold the legacy of the late, great J Dilla, through all of my albums \u2026 I\u2019m a huge fan of Dilla. I think Dilla is probably top three best producers in the world.
