\n\tLiza Minnelli<\/a> expected to sit in a director\u2019s chair when she made an appearance at the 2022 Oscars<\/a>, but instead, she claims in her new memoir, the Academy insisted she sit in a wheelchair. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI was inexplicably ordered \u2014 not even asked \u2014 to sit in a wheelchair or not appear at all,\u201d Minnelli wrote in Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!, <\/em>according to Variety<\/a><\/em>. \u201cI was told it was because of my age, and for safety reasons, because I might slip out of the director\u2019s chair, which was bullshit. \u2018I will not be treated this way,\u2019 I said. I was heartbroken. I was much lower down than I would have been in the director\u2019s chair. Now I couldn\u2019t easily read the teleprompter above me.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tMinnelli appeared with Lady Gaga at the event to present Best Picture, as the former had starred in the 1973 Best Picture winner, Cabaret<\/em>, and won an Oscar for Best Actress; Minnelli\u2019s appearance was to commemorate Cabaret\u2019s 50th anniversary. Minnelli\u2019s chair remained stationary during her appearance, during which she told the crowd how excited she was to be there. When Minnelli had trouble reading the notes, Gaga put her hand on Minnelli\u2019s shoulder and said, \u201cI got this,\u201d and lauded Minnelli as a \u201ctrue show-business legend.\u201d <\/p>\n \n\tMinnelli stumbled on her words during the appearance, prompting Gaga to whisper (audibly in the mic), \u201cI got you.\u201d After a montage, the women sang a couple of lines from Cabaret\u2019s <\/em>\u201cWillkommen.\u201d<\/p>\n
