\n\tBad Bunny<\/a>\u2018s nostalgic plena track \u201cDtMF\u201d went to Number One <\/a>on the Billboard Hot 100 this week but another version stirred up viral buzz on social media: a Japanese translation of the song. Content creator Amanda Nolan, who uses the handle amandumb online, uploaded a Japanese cover of the track on Monday \u2014 and it instantly found an audience. People across social media platforms relished<\/a> in the translation, and how well the Spanish-language song sounded in Japanese<\/a>. As of the publication of this article, Nolan\u2019s video has garnered 2.8 million views.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI could not believe it,\u201d Nolan tells Rolling Stone<\/em> of her latest viral moment. \u201cThis has been one of the most heartwarming responses,\u201d she says. \u201cThe amount of support and all of the comments in both English, Spanish, and Japanese from so many different people around the world \u2014 it\u2019s so cool.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tIt\u2019s not Nolan\u2019s first experience with a viral video. As a Nashville-based content creator who has been uploading Japanese versions of popular songs online since 2019, Nolan\u2019s covers of Chappell Roan\u2019s \u201cGood Luck, Babe!\u201d and city pop staple \u201cStay with Me\u201d have also received millions of views. But her version of Bad Bunny\u2019s \u201cDtMF\u201d coincides with the cross cultural moment that the Puerto Rican star finds himself in following his historic<\/a>, and unifying, Super Bowl halftime show<\/a>.<\/p>\n \n\tNolan was part of the 128 million viewers<\/a> who tuned in to watch \u2014 and found herself instantly inspired by the show. \u201cI really loved Bad Bunny\u2019s performance and I really loved the song,\u201d she says. \u201c[\u2018DtMF\u2019] is so beautiful. I\u2019d heard it before, of course, it\u2019s been everywhere and it was what they played when he won the [Album of the Year] Grammy<\/a>. I thought \u2018this is a song that I could translate.’\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tIt helped that \u201cDtMF\u201d was originally performed in Spanish, rather than English, like most of the songs Nolan tends to cover. \u201cI love to do Spanish translations,\u201d she says. Though she\u2019s not fluent in Spanish, the language\u2019s structure and similar vowels makes for an easier, more accurate translation into Japanese. \u201cDoing a Japanese cover of an English song, it\u2019s very hard. I have to condense the theme or completely reword and change it from the original thought to make it fit in the melody,\u201d Nolan explains. The sing-songy romance language, however, leaves \u201ca lot more wiggle room\u201d which allowed her to \u201cmaintain and preserve as much as I could,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n
