Atlas<\/strong> released new album Sunder<\/em> on February 20 and it\u2019s a modern metal masterpiece.<\/span><\/p>\n The atmospheric opening interlude of Sermon of the Dying Light<\/em> was calming and in direct contrast to the first full song on the album \u2013 Tower<\/em> \u2013 which is a brutal piece with some funky breakdowns.<\/span><\/p>\n I do love the hook in I Whisper Your Name Like a Curse<\/em>, but it was pretty repetitive after a while, although it was delivered nice and melodically.<\/span><\/p>\n The mix of cleans and screams in Salt and Sulfur<\/em> was done really well, as was the same for Coven of Two<\/em>. The latter also has a nice boybandy harmony for the \u2018ahs\u2019 at the end.<\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019m not sure what it is about Finnish vocalists but their voices are extremely seductive, particularly with Ville Valo<\/strong> of HIM<\/strong> fame, but Patrik Nuorteva<\/strong>\u2019s vocals remind me of Valo<\/strong>\u2019s and I love it. The similarity is particularly strong in Altar of Your Love<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n The breakdowns are definitely the stand out moments throughout the album for me. Atlas<\/strong> really know how to write a great breakdown, I found myself headbanging along during them. <\/span><\/p>\n
