\n\tIn the 10 months since Billy Joel<\/a> retired from touring after learning he\u2019d been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), his daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, reports that he\u2019s handling it all well. \u201cHe\u2019s doing physical therapy regularly, and he\u2019s doing great,\u201d she recently told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/em>. \u201cHe\u2019s lost weight as he\u2019s on his diet. I\u2019m so proud of him. He\u2019s such a trooper, so resilient and committed to being healthy and proactive. He\u2019s a fighter.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tAt his last full performance in February 2025, he collapsed onstage. \u201cWhen I saw the footage, I was crying. But then I went with him to the doctors, and we\u2019re on top of everything,\u201d Alexa Ray told THR<\/em>. \u201cI just tell him to stay healthy.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tIn May 2025, Joel canceled the remaining stadium dates<\/a> he had booked for the year. The diagnosis had affected the artist\u2019s hearing, vision, and balance, making performing difficult. In its definition of NPH, the\u00a0Cleveland Clinic<\/a>\u00a0likened the condition\u2019s symptoms to those of dementia but said that, unlike dementia, the condition can be reversed. His doctor instructed him to get off the road and into physical therapy until he felt well enough to perform again. \u201cI\u2019m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience and thank you for understanding,\u201d Joel said in a statement.<\/p>\n \n\tTwo months later, Joel discussed his condition<\/a> with talk-show host and podcaster Bill Maher. \u201cI feel fine,\u201d he said, but noted, \u201cMy balance sucks.
