I\u2019m so proud of him. He\u2019s such a trooper, so resilient and committed to being healthy and proactive. He\u2019s a fighter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAt his last full performance in February 2025, he collapsed onstage. \u201cWhen I saw the footage, I was crying. But then I went with him to the doctors, and we\u2019re on top of everything,\u201d Alexa Ray told <em>THR<\/em>. \u201cI just tell him to stay healthy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn May 2025, Joel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/billy-joel-cancels-tour-normal-pressure-hydrocephalus-1235346714\/\">canceled the remaining stadium dates<\/a> he had booked for the year. The diagnosis had affected the artist\u2019s hearing, vision, and balance, making performing difficult. In its definition of NPH, the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/my.clevelandclinic.org\/health\/diseases\/15849-normal-pressure-hydrocephalus-nph\" rel=\"nofollow\">Cleveland Clinic<\/a>\u00a0likened the condition\u2019s symptoms to those of dementia but said that, unlike dementia, the condition can be reversed. His doctor instructed him to get off the road and into physical therapy until he felt well enough to perform again. \u201cI\u2019m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience and thank you for understanding,\u201d Joel said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tTwo months later, Joel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/billy-joel-health-update-brain-disorder-bill-maher-podcast-1235389865\/\">discussed his condition<\/a> with talk-show host and podcaster Bill Maher. \u201cI feel fine,\u201d he said, but noted, \u201cMy balance sucks. It\u2019s like being on a boat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tJoel returned again to the stage in January to sing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/billy-joel-performs-first-time-brain-disorder-diagnosis-1235493768\/\">two songs with the Turnstiles<\/a>, a Billy Joel cover band in Wellington, Florida. He sang \u201cWe Didn\u2019t Start the Fire\u201d and \u201cBig Shot\u201d with the group. \u201cI wasn\u2019t planning on working tonight,\u201d Joel told the crowd.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cOnce a performer, always a performer!\u201d Alexa Ray commented to <em>THR<\/em>. \u201cBut health comes first. I said, \u2018If you\u2019re going to perform again, please stay seated at the piano. The fact that it is his band, that\u2019s exciting for people.
