A Florida woman is facing serious fraud charges \u2014 and the story behind it is raising some eyebrows.<\/p>\n
According to authorities, she believed she was working on behalf of country stars Florida Georgia Line<\/a> and Chase Rice<\/a>.<\/p>\n Yes\u2026 really.<\/p>\n The Flagler County Sheriff\u2019s Office says a two-year investigation uncovered multiple fraudulent property sales tied to Cheryl Annette Jefferson, 63, of Bartow, Fla.<\/p>\n Read More:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Elderly Man on Disability Scammed Out of Last Dollar by Fake AI Videos of Jelly Roll<\/a><\/p>\n The case began in January 2024<\/a> when a property owner contacted police after discovering her land had been sold \u2014 without her knowledge \u2014 and transferred into someone else\u2019s name.<\/p>\n Detectives soon found similar cases, including a vacant lot that had also been sold without the owner\u2019s consent.<\/p>\n Investigators say documents from one of the sales included a driver\u2019s license that didn\u2019t match the victim \u2014 but instead led them to Jefferson.<\/p>\n From there, they traced wire transfers connected to the sales<\/a> to a bank account Jefferson opened in 2022.<\/p>\n Authorities say more than $400,000 in deposits were linked to multiple fraudulent transactions across Florida, as well as cases in Colorado and Georgia.<\/p>\n Read More:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>George Jones\u2019 Widow Scammed Out of $10M, Arrest Made<\/a><\/p>\n Officials also say some of that money was converted into cryptocurrency and sent to accounts tied to individuals overseas.<\/p>\n When deputies arrested Jefferson, she told them she believed she was helping someone she had met at a concert \u2014 someone she thought was Brian Kelley<\/a>\u00a0of Florida Georgia Line.<\/p>\n According to investigators, Jefferson said she opened accounts and moved money under the impression<\/a> it was tied to a Nashville construction project.<\/p>\n She also said she had been introduced to another person she believed to be country singer Chase Rice.<\/p>\n Read More:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Scammers Targeted Sam Hunt With a Text You Probably Got, Too [Exclusive]<\/a><\/p>\n A search of her phone reportedly revealed messages with someone using that name, which investigators say showed her continued involvement in moving money.<\/p>\n Jefferson has been charged with an organized scheme to defraud in excess of $50,000<\/a>. She was taken into custody and later released on $100,000 bond.<\/p>\n And while the case itself is serious, Sheriff Rick Staly couldn\u2019t help but point out the irony.<\/p>\n \u201cCrime knows no borders<\/a>, and it doesn\u2019t stop at the Florida Georgia Line,\u201d he said. \u201cThis criminal may claim she has some high-profile friends, but I don\u2019t see her friends getting her out of the jam she\u2019s put herself in.\u201d<\/p>\n These 11 country stars were locked up for committing awful crimes.
