What Happens Now?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tLate last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/lindsey-buckingham\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lindsey-buckingham\" data-tag=\"lindsey-buckingham\">Lindsey Buckingham<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/lindsey-buckingham-stevie-nicks-reunion-1235538237\/\">dropped a very tantalizing tidbit<\/a> while speaking to his Instagram followers about his future plans. \u201cI think on a more general level, just the energy in terms of what <em>Buckingham Nicks<\/em> did to sort of create a resurgence of connection between Stevie [Nicks] and myself, I think on a larger scale, that seems to be something that\u2019s in the air,\u201d he said, referring to the reissue of their 1973 collaborative LP last year. \u201cAnd what that translates to specifically, I wouldn\u2019t want to speculate yet. But I believe with all my heart, it will translate to something good, and something wonderful, and something needed and something extremely appropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tFor context, Nicks and Buckingham haven\u2019t performed together since a January 2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/fleetwood-mac\/\" id=\"auto-tag_fleetwood-mac\" data-tag=\"fleetwood-mac\">Fleetwood Mac<\/a> MusiCares tribute show at New York\u2019s Radio City Music Hall. Nicks was enraged by his behavior that night, and essentially told the band that she wouldn\u2019t agree to their upcoming tour if he was involved. The group sided with Nicks, and brought in Mike Campbell and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/neil-finn-interview-crowded-house-dreamers-are-waiting-fleetwood-mac-1180529\/\">Neil Finn<\/a> to replace Buckingham on the tour. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/lindsey-buckingham-sues-fleetwood-mac-over-dismissal-from-band-736063\/\">He sued them for wrongful termination, <\/a>they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/fleetwood-mac-lindsey-buckingham-settle-lawsuit-settlement-766573\/\">settled out of court,<\/a> and any sort of reconciliation seemed very unlikely, even though Nicks and Buckingham briefly spoke at a private event honoring Christine McVie.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cThe only time I\u2019ve spoken to Lindsey was there, for about three minutes,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/stevie-nicks-fleetwood-mac-kamala-harris-new-music-1235140437\/\">Nicks told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> in October 2024,<\/a> where she also ruled out any sort of future Fleetwood Mac activity.\u00a0 \u201cI dealt with Lindsey for as long as I could. You could not say that I did not give him more than 300 million chances.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThat truly seemed like the end of the Stevie\/Lindsey saga until July 2025 when they<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/stevie-nicks-lindsey-buckingham-1973-album-reissue-billboard-1235390316\/\"> teamed up via social media to tease the <em>Buckingham Nicks<\/em> reissue. <\/a>There was no evidence they actually spoke until October 2025 when Nicks went on the <em>Song Exploder <\/em>podcast, and discussed the night they met back in 1966. \u201cLindsey and I started talking about it last night,\u201d Nicks said. \u201cThis whole thing seems really like yesterday to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<section class=\"brands-most-popular \/\/ editors-pick-module lrv-u-margin-tb-2 lrv-u-border-a-2 u-box-shadow-5-5 lrv-u-padding-lr-1 a-span1 u-padding-b-1@tablet u-overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 id=\"section-heading\" class=\"c-heading larva  lrv-u-text-align-center u-border-color-black a-font-theme-primary-xxs lrv-u-color-black lrv-u-text-transform-uppercase u-letter-spacing-0063 lrv-u-padding-t-050 u-padding-b-0375@tablet lrv-u-padding-b-050@mobile-max lrv-u-border-b-2\">\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/section>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIt was proof that she\u2019d given him her one more chance. And now Buckingham is talking in very vague terms about a \u201cresurgence of connection\u201d between\u00a0them that will \u201ctranslate to something good, and something wonderful.\u201d He says he doesn\u2019t want to speculate yet about what that may be, but that\u2019s not going to stop us. Nicks has said that isn\u2019t tenable without Christine McVie, but the band toured heavily without her between 2003 and 2014. That same lineup of Nicks, Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, and John McVie could pack arenas and even stadiums all across the globe, and could charge upwards of $5,000 per ticket. If they bill it as a farewell tour, they could command even higher prices.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIt\u2019s unclear, however, if John McVie would be up for such an endeavor. He\u2019s largely been MIA over the past few years, and Christine McVie said he\u2019d been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/christine-mcvie-fleetwood-mac-interview-last-word-1367214\/\">dealing with \u201chealth problems\u201d<\/a> when we spoke to her in June 2022. \u201cJohn\u2019s wife passing away [earlier this year] has been very, very hard on him,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/stevie-nicks-fleetwood-mac-kamala-harris-new-music-1235140437\/\">Nicks told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> in October 2024.<\/a> \u201cI actually have not talked to him since Julie passed away, because he made it very clear that he really didn\u2019t want to talk to anybody until he was miles away from it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tA Fleetwood Mac tour without Mac himself would be unfortunate, but it would have almost no impact on ticket sales. Well, listen, I would love to do a tour with Stevie. I think that would be very appropriate. She was talking about doing it in between legs of a Fleetwood Mac tour, which is not going to happen. It\u2019s logistically impossible. It\u2019s economically suicidal because you can\u2019t do enough touring to make it worthwhile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tA lot has happened in the past 14 years. The original Buckingham Nicks album was finally re-released last year, introducing those incredible songs to an entirely new generation of fans. At the moment, Nicks has a mere three solo concerts on the books, and they all take place in April. That means there\u2019s plenty of time to book a Buckingham Nicks tour with Wachtel and other veteran players.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIt could be limited to a handful of theater shows in major markets where they play the old album straight through. They could also scale up into arenas by adding a bunch of Fleetwood Mac songs into the mix, creating their own version of Page and Plant. (In this scenario, Mick Fleetwood would be sidelined just like Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones was back in the 1990s.) They wouldn\u2019t be able to charge Fleetwood Mac-level prices, but it would still be extremely lucrative for both of them. Director Frank Marshall has spent the past couple of years creating an official documentary about the band that will quite possibly come out around the time of the <em>Rumours <\/em>anniversary. The band will likely show up for the premiere, and possibly other promotional events. Could that include a one-off live event of some sort? It feels more possible today than it did just last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWe can envision a giant Fleetwood Mac tribute concert at a place like the L.A. Forum that caps off with the surviving members playing a few songs. If Nicks and\/or Buckingham don\u2019t feel like committing to a tour, this is a nice compromise that wraps up their story better than the tour where Neil Finn sang \u201cSecond Hand News\u201d every night.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"a-second-buckingham-nicks-album\" class=\"heading larva \/\/   lrv-a-font-primary-l   \">\n\t\tA Second Buckingham\/Nicks Album\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tFor reasons that aren\u2019t exactly clear, Lindsey Buckingham hasn\u2019t gone on a solo tour in nearly four years. But back in 2019, he had triple bypass surgery following a heart attack. \u201cThere\u2019s so much heart disease in his family that it\u2019s really not a surprise,\u201d Nicks told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> in 2024. \u201cSo, I wish him the best. I hope he lives a long life and continues to go into a studio and work with other people. He\u2019s also an icon, and he can teach people. He\u2019s not stopped in his tracks. He can still make music and have fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIf he\u2019s not up for a tour for any reason, health-related or otherwise, a second Buckingham\/Nicks album would be a great gift to the fans. Despite all the bad blood over the years, the two of them have amazing chemistry whenever they make music together. There\u2019s simply no doubt they bring out the best in each other, and always have. But some nights she might call up her friend Lindsey and chat about the old days. Maybe every once in a while, they\u2019ll even grab a meal together. It won\u2019t be nearly as dramatic (or lucrative) as a string of Fleetwood Mac shows at Wembley Stadium, but maybe that\u2019s not what they need at this point. Maybe all they have to do is forgive each other for the past, and find a way to just be friends again.
