In fact, she told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2026\/apr\/03\/zara-larsson-popstar-interview-on-fame-fun-fighting-the-power-lush-life\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Guardian<\/a><\/em> she could graph out exactly how her affection has been building using a simple mathematical function: \u201cThe more people hate her, the more I love her,\u201d she said. Despite this, she added, \u201cI don\u2019t like how she\u2019s being treated at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tRoan has entered the crucible of contempt several times since becoming world famous a few years ago. When she released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/chappell-roan-boundary-fans-statement-1235087528\/\">a 2024 statement<\/a> drawing boundaries between her \u201cwork\u201d and \u201cclocked-out\u201d lives, some people saw it as a rebuke of their fandom. Nevertheless, she stood strong. \u201cWhat I do not accept are creepy people, being touched, and being followed,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe contempt some people have for Roan, Larsson said, has a cause that\u2019s simple to explain: sexism. \u201cWhen a woman has boundaries, I think people freak out,\u201d she said. \u201cMen can do violent criminal things and people applaud them, but when a woman says, \u2018Stop following me,\u2019 it\u2019s controversial? It\u2019s like, you guys just hate women, actually.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tRoan most recently faced public scrutiny when Brazilian soccer player Jorginho claimed that the artist had asked a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/chappell-roan-controversy-hotel-security-incident-explained-1235537530\/\">security guard to chastise his wife and 11-year-old stepdaughter<\/a> \u201cin extremely aggressive manner\u201d for the tween having the audacity to walk past Roan and smile at her. The guard, he claimed, chided the mother and daughter saying the mom \u201cshouldn\u2019t allow my daughter to \u2018disrespect\u2019 or \u2018harass\u2019 other people.\u201d Well, it turned out to be a big misunderstanding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tRoan posted a video saying she\u2019d never even seen the mother or daughter: \u201clike, no one came up to me, no one bothered me.\u201d And, as ridiculous as it is for someone to have to say this, Roan said, \u201cI do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. \u2026 If you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad.
