American Football<\/a> are gearing up for LP4<\/a>, and its latest single is a collaboration between the emo stalwarts and descendant Brendan Yates of Turnstile<\/a>. Listen to Yates and Mike Kinsella duet on the Sonny DiPerri-produced \u201cNo Feeling\u201d\u2014in the form of a video by Unlimited Time Only<\/a>\u2019s Cady Buche and Travis Barron\u2014below.<\/p>\n Kinsella described how the collaboration came to be in a press release, saying, \u201cBrendan came into the studio to sing along to a \u2018gang vocal\u2019 call-and-response part I\u2019d written for the chorus of \u2018No Feeling.\u2019\u201d Kinsella was excited for Yates\u2019 voice to be an easter egg\u2014one of many voices to be deciphered by fans among a scream-singing chorus. \u201cBut after tracking the original parts,\u201d he said, Yates \u201casked if he could try a higher harmony that he was hearing. As soon as he started singing it, all of our jaws dropped, and we all were looking at each other like \u2018Oh shit! THAT\u2019S the dude from Turnstile!\u2019 His voice is so singular, and once he sang the part in *his* range, it was clear that the part now belonged to him and him alone\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n Buche and Barron added, of the video, \u201cWhen we listened to \u2018No Feeling\u2019 for the first time, we thought a lot about mysterious places like outer space and the bottom of the ocean\u2014they\u2019re beautiful and they also kind of freak you out. The music also brought to mind the idea of going down with the ship or a sense of crushing inevitability. Then we thought, what if you flipped that? What if you opened on a sunken ship and that was the beginning? What if this sunken ship were a thriving habitat for ghosts who live there? What if something came along that jeopardized their beautiful afterlife?\u201d<\/p>\n American Football introduced LP4\u2014the latest in their string of self-titled albums\u2014in February with the single \u201cBad Moons<\/a>.\u201d The album arrives May 1 via Polyvinyl<\/a>. Turnstile, meanwhile, have responded to a harrowing incident<\/a> allegedly carried out last week by former guitarist Brady Ebert, who is accused of deliberately hitting Yates\u2019 father with his car. \u201cWe have no language left for Brady,\u201d the band said in a statement.<\/p>\n
