Kelela<\/a> is back. After clearing her socials last week and premiering \u201cIdea 1<\/a>\u201d in New York on Monday, she dropped the video for the grungey comeback single this morning (April 8). Check out the 91 Rules<\/a>-directed visual below.<\/p>\n Kelela wrote \u201cIdea 1\u201d\u2019\u00a0with Oscar Scheller<\/a> and the painter Janiva Ellis<\/a>, with additional guitar by shoegazer Scarlet House<\/a>. In a press release, Kelela said the song is about \u201cwhat it feels like to exist in this climate\u2014the weight of being expected to witness, absorb, and speak truth at a time when the world feels like it\u2019s unraveling. That\u2019s a particular kind of burden Black women know intimately. This song doesn\u2019t offer answers, it just refuses to look away. Co-writing it with my best friend Janiva Ellis, hearing Oscar\u2019s production give it shape, and then watching 91 Rules bring that tension to life visually feels like the beginning of a much larger conversation I\u2019m ready to have.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIdea 1\u201d is Kelela\u2019s first original track since the Raven<\/em><\/a> era, which spawned a remix album<\/a> and the live LP In the Blue Light<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n
