\n\tFans hoping to catch Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, perform at this year\u2019s Wireless Festival<\/a> face another disappointing moment from their favorite, controversial rapper. On Tuesday (April 7), organizers of the annual event announced the cancellation of the three-night event after the Chicago native was denied entry into the sovereign state.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe decision<\/a> to bar Ye was made by the United Kingdom\u2019s Home Office and was based on the grounds that his appearance would not be \u201cconducive to the public good.\u201d\u00a0 The festival\u2019s top organizer, Melvin Benn, defended the motion to book the rapper in the first place.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tNaturally, Benn\u2019s spirit of forgiveness was not shared amongst the festival\u2019s brand partners, as the cancellation came after major sponsors, including Pepsi and Diageo withdrew their support due to Ye\u2019s past anti-Semitic remarks.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAlthough the Grammy-winning artist has issued apologies, he\u2019s set on rehabbing his relationship with the Jewish community on the heels of his new Bully <\/em>album<\/a>. Ye is not the first, nor likely the last, rapper or artist to be denied entry to the European country based on their problematic actions or art.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the past, other hip-hop artists were banned for reasons that range from actual criminal records to assumed misconduct based on colorful, sometimes crass lyrics. Starting with Ye, VIBE<\/em> revisits the artists and musicians who were once denied entry to the U.K.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\tSnoop Dogg\t<\/h2>\n

\n\tIn March 2007,\u00a0Snoop Dogg<\/a>\u00a0and Sean Combs, who performed under the P. Diddy moniker at the time, were forced to cancel dates on an international tour after the West Coast veteran was denied entry to the U.K. According to\u00a0The Guardian,<\/a>\u00a0he was also refused entry in May 2006. It was\u00a0later reported<\/a>\u00a0that the decision stemmed from Snoop\u2019s 2006 arrest at Heathrow Airport after an incident involving the rapper and members of his travel party. The ban was lifted in 2008 and the\u00a0Doggystyle\u00a0<\/em>performer re-entered the country by 2010.<\/p>\n

As reported by\u00a0The Guardian<\/a>, the Brooklyn rapper was booked for the first U.K. Orange RockCorps charity concert and refused entry due to \u201cunresolved convictions\u201d in the United States. In September 2008, he was held at the airport for 11 hours before a judge ordered his immediate release and right to bail. Hours before his scheduled set, it was\u00a0later ruled<\/a>\u00a0that Busta was allowed to remain in the U.K. for his performance at the show.<\/p>\n

\n\t\tChris Brown\t<\/h2>\n

\n\tIn June 2010, R&B singer\u00a0Chris Brown<\/a>\u00a0was forced to postpone a scheduled international tour after he was prohibited from entering the U.K. According to the\u00a0BBC<\/a>, the Virginia native was denied entry into the country after his 2009 conviction for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Rihanna, labeling it a \u201cserious criminal offence.\u201d He remained blocked from performing in the country for over a decade until he joined WizKid on stage at the O2 in November 2021. According to\u00a0The Independent,<\/em><\/a>\u00a0rumors that his ban had been lifted began to swirl after he had been spotted in the sovereign state earlier that year. In 2022, he performed at the Wireless Festival. Currently, the 36-year-old is set to\u00a0stand trial in London<\/a>\u00a0in October 2026 after being accused of attacking music producer Abe Diaw in 2023. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.<\/p>\n

\n\t\tLil Wayne\t<\/h2>\n

\n\tIn April 2011,\u00a0Lil Wayne<\/a>\u00a0was blocked from entering the U.K. to perform a series of concerts across Europe due to his past criminal convictions. According to\u00a0The Guardian,<\/a>\u00a0the UK Border Agency rejected his application because of his record. At the time, he was just released from prison after serving eight months behind bars for weapon possession charges. The New Orleans native ran into\u00a0similar issues in 2022<\/a>\u00a0when he was set to return for the Strawberries and Creem Music Festival for an anticipated appearance after 14 years of being banned. Unfortunately, the Home Office stood firm on its past decision. He was replaced on the lineup by Ludacris.<\/p>\n

\n\tTekashi 6ix9ine<\/a>\u00a0was\u00a0forced to cancel<\/a>\u00a0shows scheduled in London and Manchester after he was denied entry into the U.K. The full details of the June 2018 ordeal were not revealed; however, a member of the rapper\u2019s team relayed that \u201can issue with immigration\u201d led to a forced postponement. The venue that booked the \u201cSTOOPID\u201d performer also confirmed that the border patrol blocked him from entering the territory.<\/p>\n

\n\tBenny the Butcher<\/a>\u00a0claimed he\u00a0was denied entry<\/a>\u00a0to the U.K. due to his extensive criminal record. In April 2022, the Buffalo, New York-bred rapper detailed on social media that he would not be able to perform a handful of announced shows due to a \u201cnew felony charge\u201d and \u201cold FBI reports\u201d with the promise of a future tell-all documentary.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn February 2024,\u00a0Ja Rule<\/a>\u00a0took to social media to express his frustration with U.K.-set policies after he was denied entry for a scheduled performance. \u201cI can\u2019t believe the UK won\u2019t let me in. I\u2019ve spent a half million dollars in production of my own money to put this tour together only to be denied entry DAYS before my shows this is not fair to me or my fans these venues are 85% sold and now I can\u2019t come,\u201d\u00a0he ranted<\/a>. He continued to assure fans promoters had falsely guaranteed that his past convictions would not be an issue before directing them to demand refunds.<\/p>\n
