After years of dithering in which they proclaimed that Foreigner and Bon Jovi were somehow more worthy than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/joy-division\/\" id=\"auto-tag_joy-division\" data-tag=\"joy-division\">Joy Division<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/new-order\/\" id=\"auto-tag_new-order\" data-tag=\"new-order\">New Order<\/a>, the Hall is <em>finally<\/em> bringing in the groundbreaking post-punk band. (It was starting to look as if Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris, and Peter Hook would have to start yet another world-changing band to be recognized by the Hall.) <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tElsewhere, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/phil-collins\/\" id=\"auto-tag_phil-collins\" data-tag=\"phil-collins\">Phil Collins<\/a> is joining the double inductee club (which also should have happened at least a decade ago), icons <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/sade\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sade\" data-tag=\"sade\">Sade<\/a> and Luther Vandross got well-deserved nods, and Wu-Tang Clan and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/oasis\/\" id=\"auto-tag_oasis\" data-tag=\"oasis\">Oasis<\/a> are representing the Nineties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBut like every year, there\u2019s a lot of confusion and questions lingering in the air. An unusually large number of British acts are in the class, and historically they don\u2019t have the same reverence for the Hall of Fame as their American counterparts. It\u2019s unclear how many will show up. There\u2019s also the potential for a very messy reunion between bandmates who absolutely loathe one another and have had almost no contact in two decades. And in one case, the Hall of Fame seems to have made a rather baffling blunder regarding which exact members of a band are getting in. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHere are eight questions we have about this year\u2019s Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame induction.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"will-oasis-show-up\" class=\"heading larva \/\/   lrv-a-font-primary-l   \">\n\t\tWill Oasis Show Up?\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe Oasis induction is capping off an extraordinary year for the Britpop icons. Their 2025 reunion tour packed stadiums all across the planet: They weren\u2019t this popular in America even at the height of their (<em>What\u2019s the Story) Morning Glory?<\/em> fame in the mid-Nineties. There\u2019s no hint of any future shows, and they\u2019ve said very little about the Hall of Fame beyond <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/liamgallagher\/status\/2043907183151067262\">a series of snarky X posts<\/a> by Liam Gallagher. \u201cReverse psychology vibes in the area Oasis RnR hall of farmers I mean famers,\u201d he wrote in a post dripping with sarcasm. \u201cI wanna thank all the people who voted for us, it\u2019s a real honour ever since I was a little kid and singing in the shower I\u2019d dream about 1 day being in the RnR hall of fame it\u2019s true what they say anything is possible if you have a dream.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<section class=\"brands-most-popular \/\/ editors-pick-module lrv-u-margin-tb-2 lrv-u-border-a-2 u-box-shadow-5-5 lrv-u-padding-lr-1 a-span1 u-padding-b-1@tablet u-overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 id=\"section-heading\" class=\"c-heading larva  lrv-u-text-align-center u-border-color-black a-font-theme-primary-xxs lrv-u-color-black lrv-u-text-transform-uppercase u-letter-spacing-0063 lrv-u-padding-t-050 u-padding-b-0375@tablet lrv-u-padding-b-050@mobile-max lrv-u-border-b-2\">\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/section>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIt\u2019s difficult to imagine a teary-eyed Noel Gallagher accepting the award at the ceremony in November before joining his brother and the rest of the guys for singalong renditions of \u201cWonderwall\u201d and \u201cLive Forever\u201d as cameras roll for the ABC broadcast. Instead, it\u2019s much easier to imagine them not going, and possibly sending a snide,<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=OdnQEQhDzUc\"> Sex Pistols-like letter<\/a> in their place. There\u2019s also a scenario where founding drummer Tony McCarroll is the only one to show.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Oasis - Earls Court 1995 - First Night (Full Concert)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cciYfGZWo50?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"why-was-the-founding-bassist-of-oasis-excluded\" class=\"heading larva \/\/   lrv-a-font-primary-l   \">\n\t\tWhy Was the Founding Bassist of Oasis Excluded?\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tJoining Noel and Liam Gallagher in the Hall of Fame will be guitarists Gem Arthur and Paul \u201cBonehead\u201d Arthurs, bassist Andy Bell, and drummer Tony McCarroll. Alan \u201cWhitey\u201d White, who played drums in the band from 1995 to 2004 was excluded, along with the many touring members they\u2019ve employed over the years. Whitey has a strong case that he\u2019s getting screwed since he\u2019s the drummer on <em>(What\u2019s the Story) Morning Glory?<\/em>, and was there for the peak years. But drummer Dave Abbruzzese had a very similar resume with Pearl Jam, and he didn\u2019t get in either.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWith that said, it\u2019s very hard to think of any argument that justifies keeping original Oasis bassist Paul \u201cGuigsy\u201d McGuigan out of the Hall of Fame. He\u2019s a founding member of the band, and he stuck around until 1999. If McCarroll is getting in for playing drums with the band from 1991 to 1995, Guigsy should be inducted for playing bass with them from 1991 to 1999. It isn\u2019t complicated. The Rock Hall just messed this one up. They need to fix it. #JusticeForGuigsy.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-will-iron-maiden-handle-this\" class=\"heading larva \/\/   lrv-a-font-primary-l   \">\n\t\tHow Will Iron Maiden Handle This?\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn a fair world, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/iron-maiden\/\" id=\"auto-tag_iron-maiden\" data-tag=\"iron-maiden\">Iron Maiden<\/a> would have entered the Hall of Fame shortly after becoming eligible in 2005. In this world, it took two decades and three nominations before it finally happened. Iron Maiden have always been about our relationship with our fans above anything else, including awards and industry accolades.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHe didn\u2019t say anything about the band showing up. They might pull a Cher and instantly change their mind about the Hall of Fame once they actually get in. There\u2019s a long history of this. \u201cI\u2019ve been saying for a long time that this wasn\u2019t a big deal,\u201d Neal Peart said when Rush were inducted in 2013. \u201cIt turns out, it kind of is.\u201d It\u2019s pretty likely that Iron Maiden won\u2019t be quite so magnanimous. They\u2019ve never needed mainstream support or even hit songs. And they don\u2019t really need the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<h2 id=\"will-joy-division-new-order-declare-a-one-night-only-truce\" class=\"heading larva \/\/   lrv-a-font-primary-l   \">\n\t\tWill Joy Division\/New Order Declare a One-Night-Only Truce?\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tOver the past four decades, feuding groups like the Police, Yes, Talking Heads, and Led Zeppelin put aside their vast differences for the evening and played together at the Hall of Fame. In 2017, Steve Perry appeared at the podium alongside Journey even though he didn\u2019t sing with them. Joy Division\/New Order fans have fantasized about Peter Hook returning to the fold at the Hall of Fame following 20 years of tension and legal battles with the band.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019d just like to say how wonderfully pleased I am to be finally accepted into the Cleveland Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame,\u201d Hook said on Instagram once the news broke. \u201cI\u2019ve been looking forward to it for years, so I definitely am gonna make the most of it. I\u2019d like to say that this is for Ian Curtis, and for all our fans of both bands. Without you, we would be nothing.\u201d In the caption he added, \u201cSee you at the ceremony.\u201d That means Hook will indeed be at Los Angeles\u2019 Peacock Theater on Nov. 14. But his former bandmates have yet to say a word.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIt\u2019s genuinely hard to predict how this one will play out. There\u2019s so much bad blood here that even the Hall of Fame might be unable to bring theses guys together. If it does happen, however, it\u2019ll be one of the great reunions in Hall of Fame history. New Order have been fractured for way too long. Hook was a crucial architect of their sound. Everyone needs to suck it up and make this happen. (But don\u2019t hold your breath.)<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<h2 id=\"will-phil-collins-perform\" class=\"heading larva \/\/   lrv-a-font-primary-l   \">\n\t\tWill Phil Collins Perform?\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tSo far, Phil Collins has only reacted to the Hall of Fame with a very brief statement on Instagram. \u201cObviously I\u2019m pleased and honored to be inducted,\u201d he wrote. \u201cIt wraps up what has been a wonderful life in music.\u201d His life outside of music has been defined by significant health setbacks in recent years, and he hasn\u2019t played live since the end of the Genesis farewell tour in early 2022. It\u2019s likely he\u2019ll attend the event,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/phil-collins-health-update-mobile-music-1235502719\/\"> especially since he\u2019s on the mend.<\/a> We can even see him opening the show with \u201cIn the Air Tonight.\u201d In the biopic version of his life, it\u2019d be the final scene. They were supposedly working on a new album back in 2018, but it\u2019s becoming the <em>Chinese Democracy<\/em> of sophisti-pop. Will they come to the ceremony and wow the place with \u201cSmooth Operator\u201d and \u201cThe Sweetest Taboo?\u201d We can see this one going either way.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"can-the-rock-hall-ceremony-finally-end-the-oasis-phil-collins-blood-feud\" class=\"heading larva \/\/   lrv-a-font-primary-l   \">\n\t\tCan the Rock Hall Ceremony Finally End the Oasis\/Phil Collins Blood Feud?\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe rise of Oasis happened to perfectly coincide with the decline of Phil Collins as a pop-culture force after well over a decade of ubiquity. It made him a very easy target of their derision. \u201cI\u2019ll be voting Labour because I think it\u2019s morally right,\u201d Noel Gallagher said in 2005. \u201cAnother reason to vote Labour is if the Conservatives get in, Phil Collins is threatening to come back and live here. And let\u2019s face it, none of us want that.\u201d In the unlikely chance that the Gallaghers actually show up, it\u2019s a chance for them to mend fences. That means we\u2019re supposed to be in the early 2000s by now. But the Hall is still very focused on acts it\u2019s overlooked from the Eighties. In most cases, we support that. Better late than never. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBut before we start inducting the Strokes and Coldplay, there\u2019s a lot of Nineties bands still waiting. The list includes Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Tool, and Hole. They also need to go back further and take in Pixies, Devo, Pavement, Sonic Youth, and the Replacements. Going back even further, it\u2019s absurd that King Crimson and the New York Dolls aren\u2019t in. By the time that Taylor Swift makes it in on her first ballot in 2031, let\u2019s hope these rights have all been wronged. (nd we\u2019re going to fight for the Monkees and \u201cWeird Al\u201d Yankovic until our dying breaths.
