Grimes<\/a> is the subject of a new Interview Magazine<\/em> feature<\/a>. In conversation with science-fiction author Nnedi Okorafor, the singer discussed a new album called Psy Opera<\/em> that\u2019s apparently close to finished. Several track titles from the project are also mentioned, including \u201cThe Light Ages\u201d and \u201cEve Is Online.\u201d<\/p>\n While she never made a public announcement to the effect, Grimes also told Okorafor that she \u201ctotally quit music a couple years ago.\u201d It was being asked to write a rap for a K-pop artist, she said, that creatively reinvigorated her: \u201cI was like, \u2018This is too good. I\u2019m keeping this because it\u2019s crazy.\u2019 But then we had a problem for eight months where I was just a white rapper.\u201d<\/p>\n The singer later claimed to be working on a documentary about \u201cmachine consciousness\u201d called First Contact<\/em>, and told Okorafor that she doesn\u2019t employ generative AI in her own music. Then Grimes clarified that one song on Psy Opera<\/em>, \u201cDeepSeek,\u201d features lyrics written by the Chinese open-source AI model of the same name. \u201cDid it feel like you crossed the line when you did that or did it feel logical?\u201d, Okorafor asked, to which Grimes answered \u201cIt felt awesome.\u201d She also diagnosed herself with what she calls \u201cAI psychosis.\u201d<\/p>\n Grimes shared her last album to date, Miss Anthropocene<\/em><\/a>, in 2020. She signed<\/a> to Columbia Records the following year, but dropped only a couple of one-off<\/a> singles<\/a> before parting ways<\/a> with the label. In 2023, Grimes sued<\/a> Elon Musk over her parental rights to the<\/a> three<\/a> children<\/a> she shares with the tech billionaire. Last year, she released \u201cidgaf<\/a>,\u201d a demo from the Miss Anthropocene<\/em> sessions, and a new song titled \u201cArtificial Angels<\/a>.\u201d Both came out on Grimes\u2019 own label, Nazgul Recording LLC.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
