Released in partnership with the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic &amp;\u00a0Cultural Boycott of Israel, the letter is signed by Brian Eno, Massive Attack, Kneecap, Idles, Sigur R\u00f3s, Erika de Casier, Dry Cleaning, Mogwai, Macklemore, Primal Scream, Hot Chip, Smerz, Black Country, New Road, and hundreds more. \u201cFor the third consecutive year,\u201d the letter states, Israel will be \u201ccelebrated onstage despite its ongoing genocide in Gaza, while Russia remains banned for its illegal invasion of Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The signees call for \u201cpublic broadcasters, performers, screening party organizers, crew, and fans\u201d to boycott the song contest until the European Broadcasting Union, which runs Eurovision, bans Israeli broadcaster KAN. \u201cWe refuse to be silent when Israel\u2019s genocidal violence soundtracks and silences Palestinian lives,\u201d the letter reads. \u201cWhen children in Israeli prisons endure beatings for humming a tune. When all that\u2019s left of nearly every stage, studio, bookshop and university in Gaza is piles of rubble, under which slaughtered bodies still await recovery and proper burial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Broadcasters in Spain, Ireland, Iceland, Slovenia, and Netherlands have already pulled out in protest of Israel\u2019s inclusion, the letter notes. It concludes, \u201cAs artists, we recognise our collective agency\u2014and the power of refusal. We refuse to be silent. We refuse to be complicit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kneecap added: \u201cRussia was banned from Eurovision in 2022. Israel has been murdering Palestinians for decades and is now committing genocide\u2014and for the third year running, they\u2019re welcomed back onto the stage. That\u2019s not neutrality. That\u2019s a choice.\u201d They continued, \u201cWe\u2019ve paid a price for speaking out\u2014lost gigs, court cases, visa bans\u2014and we\u2019d do it all again tomorrow. Silence is complicity.
