Ryan Schreiber, the founder and longtime editor of this website, has unveiled his very own memoir. Out December 1 via Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, Weird Era: How Pitchfork Changed Music Forever<\/em><\/a> will trace the origins of Pitchfork from his \u201csuburban Minneapolis bedroom, through its transformative years in Chicago, to its arrival as a global force in New York,\u201d Schreiber wrote on Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n A synopsis describes Weird Era<\/em> as \u201can Almost Famous<\/em>-like memoir for the 21st century,\u201d\u00a0in which Schreiber\u2014who left Pitchfork in 2018\u2014\u201copens up about running the most influential, and infamous, music publication of the internet age.\u201d Topics include the adoption of a decimal rating system, the indie rock boom, and the inside story of the site\u2019s acquisition by Cond\u00e9 Nast. \u201cThe result is as much a nostalgia trip as a look behind the curtain at how Pitchfork became the force it did,\u201d he wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n On X, Schreiber thanked<\/a> editor Jackson Howard, Pitchfork mainstay Jayson Greene (the book\u2019s story editor), and Bradford Cox for the title borrowed from a classic Deerhunter<\/a> album<\/a> (9.2).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
