The metal greats recorded a cover of the song \u2014 which frontman Dave Mustaine co-wrote \u2014 for their 2026 farewell album, Megadeth<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n \n\tDave Mustaine revisited his garage days with Metallica<\/a> on Sunday when he and his band Megadeth<\/a> performed two tracks Mustaine helped write and record during his brief stint with his old band. <\/p>\n \n\tAt a show in Bogot\u00e1, Colombia Sunday night (April 26), Megadeth played \u201cThe Mechanix\u201d \u2014 a song off Metallica\u2019s famed No Life \u2018Til Leather<\/em> demo, which Mustaine had written in an earlier band \u2014 and \u201cRide the Lightning,\u201d the title-track of Metallica\u2019s second album. While \u201cRide the Lightning\u201d was completed and released after Mustaine\u2019s short tenure in Metallica ended, he still received a writing credit for the song\u2019s riffs. The performance in Bogot\u00e1 marked the first time Megadeth had ever performed \u201cRide the Lightning\u201d live.<\/p>\n \n\tFan-shot video shows the band playing a reverent rendition of \u201cRide the Lightning,\u201d with Mustaine singing the lyrics and trading off parts of Kirk Hammett\u2019s solo with Megadeth guitarist Teemu M\u00e4ntysaari. Notably, the Colombian fans were so excited to hear the song that they sang along with the opening guitar riff.<\/p>\n
