Prosecutors said he punched, choked, and bit her, and also threatened to kill her. He later pleaded guilty to one count of felony assault, avoiding jail but receiving five years\u2019 probation, 180 days of community labor, and a year-long domestic violence program.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn her new filing opposing Brown\u2019s motion, the housekeeper suing him over the alleged dog attack says his \u201csweeping request\u201d for a total ban on any mention of the Rihanna assault \u201cimproperly assumes\u201d she plans to use it to smear his character. She calls that claim \u201cspeculative,\u201d saying she would only raise the issue if needed to \u201crebut misleading testimony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cIf defendants or their witnesses testify in a manner that portrays defendant as nonviolent or non-threatening, minimizes plaintiff\u2019s fear or trauma, or otherwise attacks plaintiff\u2019s credibility based on emotional response, then prior acts evidence may become admissible for impeachment or rebuttal, even if not admissible in plaintiff\u2019s case-in-chief,\u201d the filing states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tA trial in the long-delayed case is now set to begin on June 15. The plaintiff, Maria Avila, filed her lawsuit in April 2021, claiming she was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/chris-brown-dog-bite-lawsuit-response-1326242\/\">mauled by a security dog<\/a> at the R&amp;B star\u2019s Tarzana home on Dec. 12, 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAccording to her lawsuit, Avila was taking out some trash when a large brown dog \u201cviciously\u201d attacked her, tearing flesh \u2014 and even bone \u2014 from her face and arm as she \u201cscreamed in terror and called out for help.\u201d She claims Brown came outside, stood over her while talking on his phone, then \u201cfled the scene\u201d as she lay bleeding in the driveway. In deposition excerpts filed in court, Brown said he initially heard no screams and saw no blood, and left only after his manager told him to once paramedics were on the way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBrown testified he was upstairs when he heard his dog, Hades, growling. \u201cHearing the actual growl is what actually shocked me, to make me go downstairs,\u201d he said. When he reached the driveway, he found the housekeeper \u201cface down\u201d on the ground.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI didn\u2019t touch her. I bent down, and I looked. I was \u2014 I was making sure she was breathing, and then from there, I ran and put the dogs away and yelled and told the security guard to come over,\u201d Brown said under oath.
