\n\tThe Mavericks<\/a> are returning to the road with a pair of guest vocalists to celebrate the legacy of Raul Malo<\/a>, the group\u2019s lead singer and co-founder who died<\/a> after a battle with cancer last year.<\/p>\n

\n\tDubbed The Music Lives On Tour, the trek will also see the return of co-founding member Robert Reynolds, who exited<\/a> the band in 2014. The group confirmed to Rolling Stone<\/em> that the bassist and guitarist will join Mavericks co-founder and drummer Paul Deakin, guitarist Eddie Perez, and keyboardist Jerry Dale McFadden for the announced dates. James Otto and Emily West will both share lead vocalist duties.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe singers each delivered highlight performances during a pair of tribute shows<\/a> to Malo back in December at Nashville\u2019s Ryman Auditorium. Deakin, in a statement, called them \u201cundeniable talents.\u201d \u201cThey both gave standing ovation performances. Add to that their love and respect for Raul, and the Mavericks made them our top choice to come on the road with us for this first leg of\u00a0The Music Lives On\u00a0Tour,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are lucky to have them and we are looking forward to many memorable, joyous nights onstage with them celebrating Raul and the legacy of the Mavericks.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tOtto is a Nashville lifer with a voice reminiscent of Malo\u2019s smooth baritone (watch his performance<\/a> of \u201cCome Unto Me\u201d from last year\u2019s Ryman stand). In 2007, he scored a country radio hit with \u201cJust Got Started Lovin\u2019 You.\u201d West, meanwhile, had a 2008 hit with \u201cRocks in Your Shoes.\u201d Her performances of \u201cDance the Night Away\u201d at the Ryman appearances last year were ebullient.<\/p>\n

\n\tSet to kick off in July with two nights in Kansas City, Missouri, the tour will hit cities like Austin, Orlando, and Milwaukee, before wrapping up in November in Madison, Wisconsin.<\/p>\n

\n\tMalo died at age 60 on Dec. 8, 2025. As Rolling Stone<\/em> wrote in its tribute to Malo, he was \u201cgifted with one of music\u2019s most robust and dynamic voices\u201d and \u201cknown as \u2018El Maestro\u2019 among his bandmates and fans. His singing style, powerful and emotive, had the ability to both stun an audience into silence and spur them to their feet. And with world-class musicians behind him, including Malo\u2019s co-founders in the group, bassist Robert Reynolds and drummer Paul Deakin, the Mavericks earned a reputation as the most eclectic and entertaining of performers. They could be a country band, a rock group, or a dance unit, depending on their tastes.\u201d<\/p>\n
