The musician emphasized the importance of instilling a strong work ethic in young people, rather than handing them their successes <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
\n\tSting<\/a>\u2018s children have done just fine for themselves. He has six children, including Eliot Sumner, a musician, and Mickey Sumner, an actress. And while Sting has been supportive of their careers, he recently told CBS Sunday Morning<\/a> <\/em>that he isn\u2019t outright funding them with an inheritance.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cOr whether I\u2019ve said to them, \u2018Guys, you got to work. I\u2019m spending our money. I\u2019m paying for your education. You\u2019ve got shoes on your feet. Go to work,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s not cruel. I think there\u2019s a kindness there and a trust that they will make their own way. They\u2019re tough, my kids.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tSting acknowledged that his children have an \u201cextraordinary work ethic,\u201d likely as a result of his refusal to take the \u201cYou don\u2019t have to work\u201d route. The artist described that particular statement as \u201ca form of abuse that I hope I\u2019m never guilty of.\u201d He added, \u201cThe working class works and wants to work. I\u2019m one of those people, I love to work.\u201d<\/p>\n
