\n\tGuitars important to the histories of Johnny Cash<\/a>, Kiss<\/a>\u2018 Ace Frehley<\/a>, Metallica\u2019s Kirk Hammett, and others will find new owners at the end of the month. Auction<\/a> house Julien\u2019s will sell 650 items as part of its Music Icons series<\/a> in New York City on May 29 and 30. Items from the auction will be on view at New York\u2019s Hard Rock Caf\u00e9 beginning May 13.<\/p>\n \n\tOne of the most interesting pieces is the Man in Black\u2019s 1954 Martin D18 guitar<\/a>, which he played when he made his Grand Ole Opry debut, playing \u201cFolsom City Blues\u201d and \u201cI Walk the Line\u201d in July 1956. Julien\u2019s reports that he also recorded those two songs on the guitar, as well as \u201cHey, Porter\u201d and \u201cThere You Go.\u201d The auction house estimates it will sell for between $100,000 and $200,000.<\/p>\n \n\tAnother notable guitar is Frehley\u2019s 1975 Gibson Les Paul<\/a>, his #1 \u201cBudokan\u201d instrument that he played at every concert between 1976 and 1979, essentially between their Rock and Roll Over <\/em>and Dynasty <\/em>albums. He also used it to record Kiss\u2019 Love Gun<\/em> album, and recordings from Tokyo\u2019s Budokan, for which he named the album, appeared on Alive II<\/em>. Julien\u2019s expects a Kiss fan to bid between $400,000 and $600,000.<\/p>\n \n\tThe auction also features the 1997 Gibson Signature Les Paul Custom<\/a> that Frehley played at Super Bowl XXXIII ($40,000 \u2013 $60,000) and a Light Show Sanchez Custom Gibson Les Paul Jr.<\/a> that Frehley used on Kiss\u2019 1996 reunion tour, including the band\u2019s famous Brooklyn Bridge gig for MTV ($10,000 \u2013 $15,000).<\/p>\n \n\tThe auction will also feature other notable guitars. Kirk Hammett\u2019s 1993 ESP decorated with a glow-in-the-dark Ouija board design<\/a> is expected to sell for between $250,000 and $350,000. He used it to record Metallica\u2019s \u201cBlack Album,\u201d Load<\/em>, ReLoad<\/em>, Garage Inc.<\/em>, and Death Magnetic <\/em>albums, and it includes the following handwritten note: \u201cThis was one of my main touring + recording guitars throughout the \u201990s.\u201d<\/p>\n
