\n\tBonnie Tyler<\/a>, the singer most famous for \u201cTotal Eclipse of the Heart,\u201d is recovering from unexpected surgery, according to a message shared on her website Wednesday, May 6. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery,\u201d the statement reads<\/a>. \u201cThe surgery went well and she is now recuperating. We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn March, Tyler, 74, told Hello! <\/em>that she was in good health, according to GBNews<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and I\u2019m really enjoying doing the shows,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you\u2019ve got your health, you\u2019ve got everything.\u201d Her only complaint at the time was of knee pain.<\/p>\n

\n\tTyler has tour dates scheduled in continental Europe beginning on May 22. The gigs run sporadically through December.<\/p>\n

\n\tA rep for Tyler did not immediately return Rolling Stone\u2019s <\/em>request for comment on the status of her health or her tour dates.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Welsh artist released two new singles earlier this year, \u201cOne Love\u201d and \u201cOne World One Home,\u201d both of which followed her hit collaboration with David Guetta and Hypaton, \u201cTogether.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThis year also marks the 50th anniversary of Tyler\u2019s recording career, as her debut single, \u201cMy! My! Honeycomb,\u201d came out in 1976. Although it wasn\u2019t a hit, she achieved fame within a year thanks to \u201cIt\u2019s a Heartache,\u201d which made reached Number Four in the U.K. and Number Three in the U.S.<\/p>\n

\n\tTyler\u2019s biggest hit, \u201cTotal Eclipse of the Heart,\u201d arrived in 1983, claiming the Number One positions in the U.K. and U.S. Written by Jim Steinman, the seven-minute epic found her trading verses with Rory Dodd in an elaborate arrangement played by Rick Derringer and E Street Band members Roy Bittan and Max Weinberg, among others. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c[Jim] told me he had started writing the song for a prospective musical version of Nosferatu<\/em> years before, but never finished it,\u201d Tyler said in 2023<\/a>. \u201cWe shot the video in a frightening gothic former asylum in Surrey. The guard dogs wouldn\u2019t set foot in the rooms downstairs where they used to give people electric shock treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
