I don\u2019t love having weirdness with anyone out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Why Were Miranda Lambert and Kacey Musgraves Fighting?<\/h3>\n<p>Lambert and Musgraves&#8217; feud was one of those things country insiders knew about that never surfaced in a tangible way\u00a0tabloids could feast on. The lyrics to &#8220;Horses and Divorces&#8221; speak to that.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;You know that I&#8217;ve said some things about you,&#8221;<\/em> Musgraves sings to start the song before Lambert answers with <em>&#8220;And I&#8217;ve done my fair share of s&#8211;t talkin&#8217;, too.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If that&#8217;s true, their words never\u00a0percolated. All fans were left with\u00a0was one unfortunate CMA candid of Musgraves reacting to Lambert trying to build a bridge.<\/p>\n<p>In 2013, the more senior of the two singers took Female Vocalist of the Year and during her acceptance speech, she (somewhat dryly) offered an olive branch to Musgraves (more on why in a moment).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;East Texas girls gotta stick together,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Musgraves looked less than enthused:<\/p>\n<p>After the show, Musgraves said she reached out to Lambert and they both laughed about it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a new artist, I\u2019m still getting used to cameras being on me 24\/7,\u201d Musgraves told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cAnd there\u2019s no way you can be caught smiling at all times. If you know me, sometimes when I\u2019m just sitting there, it looks like I\u2019m not having a good time, but I am!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This may all be true, but that doesn&#8217;t mean she wasn&#8217;t thinking what everyone thought she was thinking at the time.<\/p>\n<h3>The Fight Over &#8220;Mama&#8217;s Broken Heart&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p>Viewers thought that glare may have been over Lambert&#8217;s 2013 hit, &#8220;Mama&#8217;s Broken Heart.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Musgraves co-wrote the song but \u2014 as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2026\/03\/11\/nx-s1-5744621\/kacey-musgraves-middle-of-nowhere-dry-spell-interview\" target=\"_blank\">she&#8217;d tell NPR<\/a> in 2026 \u2014 it was pitched to Lambert without her knowledge and consent.<\/p>\n<p>You know what happened after that. &#8220;Mama&#8217;s Broken Heart&#8221; was a huge hit for Lambert, leaving Musgraves scrambling a bit to find a single to pin her debut album. In the end, it all worked out fine, but things were tense.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;d lost touch for years and wouldn&#8217;t consider each other friends,&#8221; she tells NPR.<\/p>\n<div class=\"single-post-image \">\n<figure class=\"img-tag has-sizer alignnone\">\n<p><span class=\"visually-hidden\">Miranda Lambert 2013 CMA Awards<\/span><\/p><figcaption>Rick Diamond, Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Merry Go Round&#8221; became Musgraves&#8217; debut single instead, and it launched her on a path that&#8217;s included Grammys for seemingly every album she releases, and her own sold-out arena tours.<\/p>\n<p>Hard feelings come about easier than they&#8217;re blown away, however.<\/p>\n<p>This situation is hardly unique.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/tags\/sam-hunt\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sam Hunt <\/a>wrote and recorded &#8220;Cop Car&#8221; only to have <a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/tags\/keith-urban\/\" target=\"_blank\">Keith Urban<\/a> make it a hit. In a long-since deleted tweet, he sai, (via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musictimes.com\/articles\/3781\/20140129\/cop-car-writer-sam-hunt-isnt-happy-keith-urbans-grammy.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Music Times<\/a>), &#8220;I worked hard on &#8216;Cop Car.&#8217; Everything I poured into that song was stolen from me. I unfortunately can&#8217;t celebrate it being on The Grammys.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Are Kacey Musgraves and Miranda Lambert Friends?<\/h3>\n<p>The two women say the feud has ended, but friends? No one is going that far.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Horses and Divorces&#8221; actually says they are not friends, but perhaps spending time together has brought them closer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In our writing session, Miranda said, \u2018Hey, I wouldn\u2019t have the career that I have without that song, and I\u2019m really grateful for it,'&#8221; Musgraves recalls. &#8220;So it was very full circle.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Took long enough.<\/p>\n<div class=\"photogallery-wrapper blog-photogallery \">\n<h2 class=\"photogallery-title\">Country Music&#8217;s Current Feuds and Beefs [UPDATED]<\/h2>\n<div class=\"photogallery-description\">\n<p>The difference between a true country music feud and one country singer being a punk is the response.
