\n\tThe Librarian of Congress has selected Beyonc\u00e9<\/a>\u2018s \u201cSingle Ladies (Put a Ring On It),\u201d Taylor Swift<\/a>\u2018s 1989<\/em>, Weezer<\/a>\u2018s self-titled \u201cBlue Album,\u201d and the Go-Go\u2019s Beauty and the Beat<\/em>, among others, for preservation in the National Recording Registry<\/a>. Robert R. Newlen, the acting Librarian, selected these recordings as he sees them as representative of America and its history. These selections mark the first time Beyonc\u00e9 and Swift have made it in.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cBeyonc\u00e9\u2019s blockbuster [song] found itself embraced by all generations and fans of almost every musical style,\u201d the Library notes in an official blurb.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cAs she does so well, Swift used the songs in 1989<\/em> to examine matters of the heart,\u201d it said. \u201cSeven singles, including the perennial favorite \u2018Shake It Off,\u2019 were released from this phenomenally successful album.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cMusic and recorded sound are essential, wonderful parts of our daily lives and our national heritage,\u201d he said in a statement. \u201cThe National Recording Registry<\/a> works to preserve our national playlist for generations to come. The Library of Congress<\/a> is proud to select these audio treasures and will work to preserve them with our partners in the recording industry.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe class of 2026 comprises 25 recordings, made over 70 years, in total. Selections came from a pool of more than 3,000 nominations from the public.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI don\u2019t know that there is a better feeling than knowing that women are raising their daughters and playing them the Go-Go\u2019s,\u201d the group\u2019s Jane Wiedlin said in a statement. \u201cAs far as the Go-Go\u2019s legacy, the biggest accomplishment is that we broke the glass ceiling.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe Library of Congress notes that the Blue Album was \u201camong\u201d the most nominated recordings. \u201cProduced by Ric Ocasek of The Cars, the album broke through the angst-filled sounds of alternative rock and presented a new nerdy geek-rock charm,\u201d an official blurb reads. \u201cFeaturing such iconic hits as \u2018Buddy Holly,\u2019 \u2018Say It Ain\u2019t So,\u2019 and \u2018Undone \u2013 The Sweater Song,\u2019 the album is an enduring, essential classic of the alternative rock age.\u201d<\/p>\n
