Still, the band\u2019s song choices have become a divisive topic among fans.<\/p>\n<p>During a recent appearance on the <a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/talk-is-jericho\/id767016946\" target=\"_blank\">Talk Is Jericho<\/a> podcast, Benante detailed how difficult it can be to keep all of Anthrax\u2019s followers happy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/11-classic-rock-artists-that-shaped-heavy-metal\/\">11 Classic Rock Artists That Shaped Heavy Metal<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople give us s\u2014 all the time about, oh, they play the same set list,\u201d the drummer lamented. \u201cBut a lot of times we ask the fans what they want to hear, and it&#8217;s the same songs. And it&#8217;s like, you guys give us so much s\u2014 about it, but on this next run that we&#8217;re going to do, we&#8217;re not going to play any of the older songs. We&#8217;re just going to play the new songs, and then you&#8217;re going to bitch about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>&#8216;Only a Handful of People&#8217; Care About Anthrax Deep Cuts<\/h3>\n<p>While Benante conceded that hardcore fans get excited when a rarity pops up in concert, such surprises rarely resonate with the majority of their crowds. \u201cIt goes right over their heads,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>Benante also\u00a0admitted that\u00a0the type of show can make a big difference in Anthrax&#8217;s set list.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a festival setting, you have to hit hard because you don&#8217;t want to lose thousands of people,\u201d he explained. \u201cSo you have to play the songs that are most familiar with them. When it comes to a headline show, that&#8217;s when we can take some time to experiment and we&#8217;re going to throw this one in. Trust me, man, there&#8217;s some songs on (1990 album)\u00a0<em>Persistence of Time<\/em> that we would love to throw in. There&#8217;s some songs on (2011&#8217;s)\u00a0<em>Worship Music<\/em> that we would love to throw in. But when we do it, it just goes over your heads and only a handful of people who are the ones going online talking about it appreciate it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/heavy-metal-albums\/\">Top 50 Classic Heavy Metal Albums<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Benante went on to note that Anthrax listens to their fans and always strives for the most enjoyable shows possible \u2013 even if they don\u2019t play that deep cut you requested.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hear you,\u201d the drummer declared. \u201cOf course, we hear what you&#8217;re saying. We will (play rarities).
