\n\tListening to \u201cA Bar Song (Tipsy)\u201d today, it\u2019s hard to believe there was a time when Shaboozey<\/a>\u2019s massive crossover single didn\u2019t exist. Built around an interpolation of\u00a0J-Kwon<\/a>\u2019s 2004 house-party hit \u201cTipsy\u201d and an acoustic strum-clap rhythm, the song has become more than a hit: It\u2019s a pop-culture milestone.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn his digital cover story<\/a> for Rolling Stone<\/em>, which includes his first-ever podcast appearance, on Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2019s Nashville Now<\/em>, Shaboozey recalls the response when \u201cA Bar Song\u201d was released to streaming services on April 12, 2024.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWithin the first 10 minutes of it coming out, it was having 100,000 streams on Spotify. My team, my managers, were making bets: \u2018Oh, it\u2019s gonna get a million in a week!\u2019 and I\u2019m watching it, and I\u2019m like, \u2018This is about to get a million in\u00a024 hours<\/em>,\u2019\u201d Shaboozey says.<\/p>\n

\n\tSomewhere around then \u2014 he doesn\u2019t remember the exact performance \u2014\u00a0he sang it live for the first time. \u201cI was doing this show in the desert with Charlie xcx, and no one knew the song, no one knew what was going on,\u201d he says. \u201cIt just kind of just kept climbing, and I just rode the wave. It was really like surfing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA Bar Song (Tipsy)\u201d hit the country charts first, before jumping over to the Hot 100, where it spent 19 non-consecutive weeks at Number One, tying a record set by Lil Nas X\u2019s \u201cOld Town Road,\u201d until Mariah Carey\u2019s \u201cAll I Want for Christmas Is You\u201d came back and usurped them both.<\/p>\n

\n\tShaboozey will release his new album, The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales<\/em>, on July 31. Last week, he dropped the new single \u201cCowgirl,\u201d <\/a>which evokes the buoyancy of \u201cA Bar Song (Tipsy),\u201d along with a music video starring Summer House<\/em> cast member Ciara Miller.<\/p>\n
